Will Bills Sign Free Agent Mike Evans After Gabe Davis Post?

It was another disappointing end to the season for the Buffalo Bills. With Josh Allen behind center and other talent all over the roster, many talking heads continue to label the Bills as Super Bowl contenders, listing them as one of the odds favorites to win year after year. However, there seems to be a similar pattern year after year, suggesting some change is needed as the Bills head into NFL Free Agency.

It’s not often a team moves on from one of their leaders when they are at the end of their rookie contract. Typically, the team would re-sign that player, or extend them before it got to that point. However, the recent Gabe Davis post suggests the Bills will do exactly that. Of course, this message came shortly after we heard veteran wide receiver Mike Evans would hit free agency.

Gabe Davis Instagram Post, Saying Bye to the Bills

“Big Game Gabe” had plenty of big moments with the Buffalo Bills during his first four years in the NFL. In Davis’ post above, he shares a bit of a goodbye to Bills Mafia while touting his NFL success thus far.

While many have mixed feelings on Davis, due to his wildly inconsistent production, it is clear he is a talented wide receiver. The question becomes why he wasn’t able to have more of an impact week in and week out. Regardless, Gabe Davis looks to have finished his time in Buffalo with 2,730 receiving yards and 27 touchdowns in the regular season. He was much better in the postseason, totaling 474 yards and six touchdowns in seven games.

Across his regular season games, Davis totaled more than five receptions just five times, and he had just one game of more than six receptions. This helps to underline the point that he was never looked at as a go-to option. In fact, Davis looked out of the game plan more often than not which is likely a big reason why he would like to find a better fit this offseason.

Will the Buffalo Bills Sign Mike Evans in NFL Free Agency?

If Gabe Davis is moving on from the Buffalo Bills, then clearly the team needs to bring in some talent to play outside wide receiver with Stefon Diggs. They don’t have time to draft and develop a player, as the Bills are constructed in a way to compete right now. For this reason, signing a receiver during NFL Free Agency is likely, and Mike Evans looks to be among the top free agents.

Evans is looking to join a contender following a full decade in Tampa. During this time, Mike Evans found a way to total 1,000 yards in every season, making him one of the most consistent receivers in NFL history.

While he isn’t what he once was, Evans is a big, athletic outside wide receiver who could stretch the field and be a great red zone weapon. While Gabe Davis did some good things in Buffalo, he was never a player to draw much coverage away from Diggs. Evans, on the other hand, will be a player opponents specifically must game plan for. This could take this offense to the next level and help Diggs return to top form.
