Three fantasy football streamers at defense that you can pick up to play include the Jacksonville Jaguars!
We may have survived the nasty bye week that was Week 8, but the Atlanta Falcons really let us down as our top recommended defense fantasy football streamers option last week. In case you weren’t aware, let me just state for the record that Raheem Morris is a terrible head coach and the Falcons are a really weird team that is difficult to trust across the board. You can tell I’m not bitter, right? Okay, end of rant. Let’s turn the page to Week 9, where we have another four teams sitting idle. As a result, plenty of managers will once again be looking to stream the DST position. If you find yourself in that scenario, you have come to the right place!
Given that so much of the DST position is predicated on forcing turnovers and generating sacks, streaming the position weekly to attack the best matchups is arguably the most surefire way to achieve consistent success. Below, we discuss our favorite defense fantasy football streamers for Week 9. Be sure to also check out our Week 9 fantasy football rankings!
Note: Players must be owned in less than 60% of ESPN leagues to be included in the best defense fantasy football streamers column.
Week 9 Defense Fantasy Football Streamers
Jacksonville Jaguars Fantasy DST (33.2%)
After getting picked apart by Matthew Stafford across the pond, the Jacksonville Jaguars had a bye last week to lick their wounds. While there are clearly things that need to be improved across the board in Liam Cohen’s maiden season as an NFL head coach, the defense is presented with a tremendous opportunity to get back on track in Week 9 and thus becomes a preferred fantasy football streamers candidate.
Despite having had their bye, the Jags still rank 13th in fantasy scoring at the DST position. However, the unit was not nearly as successful in the two most recent games against solid offenses. As a unit, the Jaguars’ defense has amassed ten takeaways and eight sacks on the year while scoring two touchdowns. However, the most recent two games before the off week yielded no turnovers and only a single sack. Jacksonville will need to revert to its ball-hawking ways from the first month of the season to have a bounce-back fantasy performance.
Fortunately, the Las Vegas Raiders outfit that the Jaguars will go up against in Week 9 hasn’t exactly looked like a solid, let alone competent offense through the first eight weeks. Opposing defenses have averaged more than ten fantasy points per game against the Raiders. A big reason for this is the horrendous play of Geno Smith, who has thrown more interceptions (ten) than touchdown passes (seven). Las Vegas ranks 30th in the NFL in overall offensive EPA/play. Throw in the fact that the offensive line is not good, and the Jaguars have a great chance to win this matchup at multiple levels.
More Fantasy Football Streamers Week 9
Los Angeles Chargers Fantasy DST (55.2%)
Despite losing star safety Derwin James to an ankle injury early on in last Thursday’s game, the Los Angeles Chargers still throttled a beleaguered Minnesota offense. The Bolts feel like a week-to-week team that lacks consistency, but the defense has regularly been in the positive as far as fantasy points scored. L.A. has shown a consistent ability to rush the passer. This defense has recorded at least one sack in every game with multiple in six of eight games to date. 22 total sacks on the year ranks eighth in the NFL, and the Chargers have also forced seven takeaways.
As for Week 9, the good vibes figure to continue for the Chargers defense thanks to a matchup against the Tennessee Titans. Opposing defenses have averaged a whopping 12.25 fantasy points per game against Tennessee! That is by far the most any team has given up to the position to date. The Titans have been trying to make it work with a rookie signal-caller, rookie WRs and a bad offensive line. That’s not exactly a recipe for success. Calvin Ridley may return from injury this week, but expecting Cam Ward to get him the football regularly is a tough ask.
Ward has a lot of positive attributes, but he regularly holds the ball too long, a theme that has seemingly gotten worse in recent weeks. This, coupled with the bad O-line, has resulted in him getting sacked 4.3 times per game, the worst mark in the league. Add in the fact that James practiced on Tuesday and appears on track to be roaming the secondary once again on Sunday and it’s tough not to love the Chargers as a fantasy football streamers play once again this week.
Baltimore Ravens Fantasy DST (34.8%)
It’s honestly pretty wild that we have gotten to the point where the Baltimore Ravens can even be considered a fantasy football streamers option at the DST position. Yet, that is where we find ourselves in the year 2025. The Ravens are available in over 65% of ESPN leagues and for good reason, considering that they rank 31st among all defenses in fantasy scoring. While I’m not a huge fan of the coordinator or the depth, it’s important for us to remember that Baltimore has been riddled with injuries so far this season. With several players returning following the bye a week ago, one has to believe that this unit will trend positively in the coming weeks.
As far as counting stats go, the Ravens only managed one sack and one takeaway as a team last week. However, it did mark the second straight game in which they held the opposition under 20 points scored. After giving up 37+ points in the three games prior, that’s certainly a sign of improvement. Baltimore will be in action on Thursday night in Week 9 on the road against the Miami Dolphins. Those looking to utilize them as fantasy football streamers play will thus need to plan accordingly.
As for the Dolphins, it may seem contrarian to fade them after last week’s offensive outburst in Atlanta. Personally, I give Mike McDaniel a good deal of credit for getting his team to show up in that spot amidst all of the outside noise and perceived poor locker room vibes coming in. Tua Tagovailoa played well, but he is still not a good quarterback and prone to a multi-interception game any given week. The return of Lamar Jackson should give the Ravens better vibes than anything the Dolphins have off last week’s win. We’ll bet on Miami to revert to the form of a team that has allowed the eighth-most fantasy points per game to opposing defenses.
