If you are unaware what NFL survivor picks are, the basic concept is you make NFL picks throughout the season, but you can only pick a team once. Once you lose, you’re knocked out, so choose your Week 5 survivor picks wisely.
Last week, I went 3-0 on my picks, pushing my season record to 9-3. Looking at the NFL slate this week, the picks are a lot tougher to make than last week. There are many good matchups this week and with the coronavirus looming, who knows what is going to happen for the remainder of the season. With that in mind, here are my best picks for your Survivor pool.
Teams used for “Lock of the Week”
- 1 – Buffalo Bills
- 2 – San Francisco 49ers
- 3 – Indianapolis Colts
- 4 – Los Angeles Rams

Lock of the Week | Week 5 Survivor Picks
Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Philadelphia Eagles
The battle of Pennsylvania is here! This battle though seems to be a little one-sided. The Pittsburgh Steelers are one of the best teams in the NFL. They are coming off of a “forced” bye after their run in with coronavirus. The Steelers are ready to play football. Reports have come out that Pittsburgh was upset that they were forced to take a bye. This game seems like a classic 400-yards, five-touchdown game from Ben Roethlisburger. With the weapons that Ben has in, Juju Smith-Schuster, Eric Ebron and Diontae Johnson, it seems very likely that this is stat line is attainable. The Eagles do not have the type of players and weapons to keep up with the Steelers. Because of Philadelphia’s success of stopping the run, look for the Steelers to pass early and often. Philadelphia will not be able to keep up with Carson Wentz at quarterback. Look for the Steelers to dominate the battle of Pennsylvania this week.

Houston Texans vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
Houston has somewhat of a fresh start after getting rid of a big cancer in their locker room. After Bill O’Brien left, the Texans are looking to long time coach Romeo Crennel to lead them. This should be a big Deshaun Watson game as Jacksonville doesn’t have a particularly good defense. Jacksonville also seems like they don’t quite have it yet to compete. I said last week that it was a must win game for the Texans last week. Since coming off of a loss, this is 100% for sure a must win game for the Texans. I fully expect that the Texans get their offense going against a poor Jacksonville defense. If nothing else, take the Texans due in part to that they finally got rid of Bill O’Brien.

Los Angeles Chargers at New Orleans Saints
The New Orleans Saints are an overrated team. With Michael Thomas likely being out this week, their only playmaker on offense is Alvin Kamara. Drew Brees, who is not very mobile will likely see a heavy dose of Joey Bosa this week and will be forced to throw almost exclusively to his 1st and 2nd options. Justin Herbert is coming off of an incredible week, posting a passer rating of 137.9. This will be Herbert’s first real NFL test as he will be in the spotlight on Monday Night Football. Without Austin Ekeler, the Chargers will be forced to make short, efficient passes, as well as using their run game to open up play action. This bodes well for a still developing quarterback as he is not forced to carry the team this week. With an injured Saints secondary, this looks like it could be a big upset and high reward for your survivor pool.
