Week 10 has arrived, and fantasy managers will have to navigate another four teams being on bye when setting their lineups. Funny enough, the defense fantasy football streamers market may not have a super high demand this week, given that three of the NFL teams sitting idle barely play any defense when they are in action! That said, those who may be streaming the position weekly or who are in need of an upgrade to maximize their scoring potential have a slew of solid options available.
Given that so much of the DST position is predicated on forcing turnovers and generating sacks, streaming the position weekly to attack the best matchups is arguably the most surefire way to achieve consistent success. Week 10 Defense Fantasy Football Streamers
Cleveland Browns Fantasy DST (47.7%)
For as bad a team as the Browns have been this season, it’s not the fault of their defense. Cleveland enters Week 10 ranked sixth in the NFL in overall defensive EPA/play and eighth in fantasy points scored at the DST position. The defensive front has been the catalyst for this unit, and it doesn’t come as a surprise with a player like Myles Garrett leading the charge. The Browns have recorded 24 sacks as a team to date and also generated seven turnovers in the two games prior to their Week 9 bye.
It’s also worth pointing out that the Browns have been particularly stout against the run and hold the top overall ranking in EPA/rush defensively. Opponents have been held to just 94.3 rushing yards per game to date. This strength figures to be on full display in Week 10 as Cleveland hits the road to clash with the New York Jets. With Justin Fields playing quarterback, the Jets are clearly a run-first offense. Fields may have lit up the Cincinnati defense in New York’s most recent game, but he continues to look incompetent as a passer this season against competent outfits.
Coming into this game, the Jets have surrendered the seventh-most fantasy points per game to opposing defenses. They have also given up a whopping 31 sacks, the fourth-most of any team. This matchup could prove to be a total mismatch in the trenches with the Browns having an opportunity to dominate the New York offensive line and be a terrific fantasy football streamers play.
More Fantasy Football Streamers Week 10
Buffalo Bills Fantasy DST (49.6%)
From a pure football standpoint, there are still plenty of concerns when it comes to the Bills defensively, particularly against the run. Despite the unit’s shortcomings, Buffalo is once again proving to be a capable source of fantasy production. Through the first nine weeks, the Bills rank 15th in scoring among defenses. Getting after opposing quarterbacks is a strength of this group, as they have recorded 25 sacks on the year with ten of those coming in their last two games. The Bills are also benefitting from opponents’ turnovers of late as well with four takeaways in the last two weeks.
This Sunday will afford Buffalo another favorable matchup that managers should look to take advantage of with defense fantasy football streamers. This will be the second meeting this season between the Bills and Miami Dolphins. One key difference in this game from the first will be the absence of Tyreek Hill. The Dolphins were able to move the ball in the first meeting, and the Bills’ pass rush was ineffective against the quick throw concepts that Miami runs. Without Hill, it figures to be much more challenging for the Dolphins in the rematch.
Of course, we’d be remiss if we didn’t also note that Tua Tagovailoa remains the starting QB for the Dolphins. He continues to have a turnover problem and is a big reason why Miami enters allowing the sixth-most fantasy points per game to opposing defenses. If the Bills are focused on the task at hand, they should have little trouble providing a solid fantasy stat line.
Carolina Panthers Fantasy DST (12.9%)
Believe it or not, the Panthers boast a winning record through the first half of the NFL season. It might the quietest 5-4 start ever, but Carolina continues to find ways to win football games. A slew of favorable matchups has benefitted them, but going into Green Bay last week and winning as a two-touchdown underdog was duly impressive. The Panthers’ defense was much-maligned a season ago. While the unit remains inconsistent from week to week, tremendous strides have been made. Ranked 24th in overall defensive EPA/play and 17th in fantasy scoring at the position, Carolina is no longer a total pushover defensively.
In Week 10, the Panthers find themselves among the consideration for defense fantasy football streamers thanks to a favorable home matchup against the New Orleans Saints. The Saints have very little to get excited about on offense. Last week’s game came against one of the top teams in the league, but Tyler Shough doesn’t appear to be an upgrade over Spencer Rattler one start into his career. Meanwhile, Alvin Kamara is clearly a shell of his former self, and New Orleans also traded away one of its better pass-catchers in Rashid Shaheed at the deadline.
With the Saints offering very little in terms of offensive firepower and operating with a rookie QB, they remain a fade as they have been basically all season in this column. For those who have been playing the matchups on a weekly basis at the DST position, the Panthers are bound to be available in your league and should be able to post a solid fantasy line this week.
