On September 30th, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez will make his highly-anticipated return to the boxing ring against Jermell “Iron Man” Charlo. Alvarez (59-2-2, 39 KO) enters the ring fresh off a dominant unanimous decision win over John Ryder in May. Charlo hasn’t seen the inside of the squared circle since a win over Brian Castano over sixteen months ago, yet still holds all the belts at super welterweight, reigning as the undisputed champion down at 154 pounds. Their Showtime pay-per-view main event will be the first time in boxing history that two undisputed champions in different weight classes collide.

When will Canelo Alvarez vs Jermell Charlo fight?
The super middleweight fight between Canelo Alvarez and Jermell Charlo will take place today, September 30 at 9:00 PM (ET).
Canelo vs Charlo boxing fight preview
For a while, Canelo thought he would be facing Jermall Charlo. Instead, the younger sibling stands between him and a 60th win in 64 fights. Tensions have long simmered between the Charlo twins but now they have boiled over to the point that Jermell and Jermall have not spoken for months. Hardly an ideal subplot to the superfight Jermell has chased for years.
Canelo, by contrast, has lived at these rarefied heights since facing Floyd Mayweather a decade ago. The odds suggest Canelo will prove too strong, too experienced, too good at T-Mobile Arena. Recent history paints a similar picture. Few men have successfully scaled two divisions in one leap. Canelo has done it but he is in elite company with the likes of Roy Jones Jr and Sugar Ray Leonard.
Undercard preview:
A pair of former champions are up next with Yordenas Ugas facing off against Mario Barrios. For his part, Yordenis Ugas (27-5, 12 KO) hasn’t been seen since a knockout loss to Errol Spence Jr. over a year ago in a welterweight title unification. Meanwhile, Mario Barrios (27-2, 18 KO) is coming off a knockout win over Jovanie Santiago in February, snapping a two-fight losing streak.
The latest betting odds from ProBoxingOdds show Yordenis Ugas as a heavy favorite, and for good reason. He’s the bigger man, having been established at welterweight for far longer. Furthermore, Ugas is just more proven against better competition, having earned wins over Manny Pacquiao and others.
The co-main event of Canelo versus Iron Man is a guaranteed firefight between Jesus Ramos and Erickson Lubin. For his part, ‘Mono’ is undefeated in his professional career at 20-0 (16 KO), having defeated names such as Brian Mendoza in that stretch. Meanwhile, the veteran Erickson Lubin (25-2, 18 KO) is coming off a knockout win over Luis Arias in June.
