With the NBA Finals officially over, next on the schedule will be the 2021 NBA Draft. The Washington Wizards had a successful 2020-21 campaign that saw them finish 34-38, making the playoffs as an eight seed. They ended up losing to the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round. However, if they want to stay afloat in the Eastern Conference they need to make a couple of important decisions this offseason.
The following is a complete look at the Washington Wizards needs, as we approach the 2021 NBA Draft and Free Agency.
Washington Wizards Needs Heading Into the Offseason
Washington Wizards Free Agents
- Robin Lopez, C
- Ishmael Smith, PG
- Raul Neto, PG
- Alex Len, C
- Isaac Bonga, SF
- Cassius Winston, PG
- Garrison Matthews, SG
The Wizards don’t necessarily have any big-name free agents this summer, but they do have some that are vital to the team. Robin Lopez and Alex Len should both be retained, as they are important big-men on the team. As for Neto, Bonga, and Bonga, I expect the Wizards to do their best to hold on to them. Winston would likely be a priority this offseason, as he’s still young. Finally, Matthews and Smith should only be brought back on team-friendly deals.

Washington Wizards Draft Targets
Corey Kispert, SG/SF
Corey Kispert is flat out the best catch and shoot player in this draft. He played for the national runner up Gonzaga last year, along with Jalen Suggs. Also, for a wing player he’s rather tall, standing at 6’7″. He isn’t the best defender, but he can get the job done when asked. Last year, Kispert averaged 18.6 points per game while shooting 53% from the field and a blazing 44% from deep. He would be a welcome addition to the Wizards.
Ziaire Williams, SF
Ziarire Williams has seen his stock drop drastically this past year. After starring for Sierra Canyon, the same school Bronny James attended, he made his way to Stanford. He’s a very smart player, that doesn’t turn the ball over much. Scouts have favorably compared him to Michael Porter Jr, and that comparison alone, would be worth the 15th pick. However, he can play as well. At Stanford, he only averaged 10.7 points per game, but the offensive potential is definitely there.
Cameron Thomas, SG/PG
Cameron Thomas is another prospect who can flat out score. The 19-year-old was a star at LSU before deciding to take his game to the professional level. Behind Green, he’s probably the best pure scoring guard in the draft. Last year he averaged 23 points per game, while also adding in around a steal per game. The value for him in the 20-pick range, is off the charts. Thomas could easily be a lottery pick in most drafts.
