Washington Football Team Preview

It was only five weeks ago that Washington was nipping at the heels of the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC East Division standings. Unfortunately, things went south big-time from there. Ron Rivera’s team has now lost four straight and finds itself already eliminated from postseason contention entering Week 18. After a strong start last week that culminated in a 16-7 halftime lead, Washington was shut out in the second half and lost 20-16 at home to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Sunday’s game might very well be the last chance for Taylor Heinicke to prove his worth as an NFL starting quarterback. On the bright side, Washington will have top RB Antonio Gibson back from virus protocols this week. Meanwhile, what was presumed to be one of the best defensive fronts in the league will be further depleted in Week 18. Chase Young has been out for several weeks, and fellow edge rusher Montez Sweat will also be unavailable for this regular-season finale. An inability to generate pressure consistently has been a big part of why Washington ranks 28th in adjusted pass defense on the season.

New York Giants Preview

For the Giants and their fans, this NFL betting season simply cannot come to an end soon enough. The decision to shut down starting quarterback Daniel Jones several weeks ago was justified given that New York was well out of playoff contention. Unfortunately, the result has been some pretty atrocious offensive football. The Giants have only exceeded 10 points scored once in their last five games, each of them losses.

With Mike Glennon having been ruled out for Week 18 with a wrist injury, former Georgia Bulldog Jake Fromm will get another opportunity to start at quarterback on Sunday. While the Washington secondary is certainly ripe for exposure, the Giants’ may lack the ability to do so with a third-string QB under center. Expect New York to aim to get star RB Saquon Barkley involved as they try to give the home fans something to cheer about. While not much should be expected on offense, the Giants’ defense has been very solid when playing at home this season. Only two of New York’s seven previous opponents at MetLife Stadium have scored more than 21 points.
