Washington Signs NFL’s Most Athletic TE Ever: Sammis Reyes

While most NFL teams are gearing up for the 2021 NFL Draft, the Washington Football Team recently made a massive signing, physically. Washington released tight end Thaddeus Moss the other day, and now we know they had their eyes on Sammis Reyes, who grades as the most athletic TE the NFL has ever seen.

Washington Signs Sammis Reyes

We have seen the trend over the past couple decades of converting former basketball players to TEs. Washington is looking to do just that with Sammis Reyes.

Reyes is a 25-year-old Chilean basketball player who also played at Tulane and Loyola University in Louisiana. Now, he turns his focus to football. After showcasing his athletic abilities, it didn’t take long for WFT to come knocking.

At 6-5, 260 pounds with a 40-inch vertical, Reyes could be one nasty red zone threat for years to come. Washington has also already shown the ability and willingness to develop tight ends, shown by the success they had with Logan Thomas last season.

While he is clearly very raw and inexperienced, his athleticism can certainly be compared to that of Kyle Pitts out of Florida, who some team is likely going to trade up for this season. Instead, Washington pulled this guy out of seemingly nowhere, so they can focus on weapons to get this team back to the playoffs.

If Reyes contributes anything on the field to Washington this season, this signing should be called a success. It’s low risk, but it clearly has a very, very high possible reward.
