Underdog Fantasy NFL DFS Picks: Rams vs Bears NFL Playoffs
Blake Corum HIGHER 9.5 Rushing Attempts
As the NFL regular season came to the second half, the Rams made it clear that they wanted both of their running backs healthy when it came to the playoffs. That paid off, as both Kyren Williams and Blake Corum saw a number of touches down the stretch. That continued over to the Rams’ Wild Card matchup against the Panthers, as both backs saw double-digit carries in that game. We know that Sean McVay is a master when it comes to developing run schemes, so utilizing two different skill sets at his running back position is beneficial to the offense.
The Rams will have no problem running the ball in this game. Even though Chicago tightened up against the Packers in the second half of the game, that may be more due to Green Bay’s offensive line not playing well. Even with this being the case, Josh Jacobs was able to find success early in the game. With their two-headed run attack and Chicago giving up 132.6 rushing yards per game in the regular season, both backs will have success. I am elected to take the lower of the two entries here, as I expect both backs to be involved. With Corum, he has gone higher than this number in five of his last six games.
Caleb Williams HIGHER 217.5 Passing Yards
The Chicago Bears have been a really interesting team this year. At times, it looks like they are the worst team in the NFL and then a flip switches and it looks like they are the best team in the NFL. That switch usually turns out to be the fourth quarter. Either way, one thing that has been constant in Chicago has been the progression and usage of Caleb Williams. The quarterback came just short this season of finishing as the Bears’ first 4,000-yard passer, meaning that Ben Johnson and company are comfortable with him throwing the ball.
Just like the Green Bay game, I expect the Rams to get up big early in this game. That means that Chicago will once again be playing from behind, meaning that Williams is going to be relied on to win this game with his right arm. Chicago comes into this game with a healthy set of weapons in Luther Burden, DJ Moore, Rome Odunze, Colston Loveland and Cole Kmet. With the playmakers around him, 217.5 feels like too low of a number. Williams has gone higher than this number in four of Chicago’s last five games.
Puka Nacua HIGHER 7.5 Receptions
This one feels as free as an entry has been all season long. Puka Nacua once again logged an incredible season at the wide receiver position and should probably be this year’s Offensive Player of the Year. It is clear that the Rams’ offensive game plan revolves around Nacua, seeing how early he got the ball against a solid Panthers pass defense. Now this week, the pass defense for the Bears is worse than the Panthers’, meaning that Nacua will almost always be open. Coming off of an 18-target, 11-reception performance against Carolina, Nacua is obviously the number one option in this Rams offense.
This season, the Bears have allowed the eighth-most passing yards in the NFL. That bodes well for Matt Stafford, and if that bodes well for Stafford, we know that will bode well for Nacua. In his career, Stafford is not afraid to pepper one guy with targets, especially in must-win games. We have seen this from Calvin Johnson, and we saw this the last time the Rams won the Super Bowl with Cooper Kupp. Nacua is as good a player to be put into the Johnson and Kupp category, so given his superstar status, Nacua finishing the game with 8+ receptions is as big a lock as there can be this weekend.
