The hype surrounding Zion Williamson heading into the NBA season seems to be living up to expectations. The young Duke product is the heavy favorite at MyBookie to win Rookie of the Year (-145). However, the player making big jumps in the odds are Miami Heat’s Tyler Herro, who has jumped up to +3750 over the past couple days.
In his lone year at Kentucky, Herro averaged 14 points and converted 35.5% of his three-point attempts. The 13th overall pick for the Heat proceeded to average 19 points, four rebounds, three assists and 1.5 steals per game during Summer League play. In the 2019 preseason, Herro is averaging 13 points and converting 37.5% of his three-point attempts.
If Herro is able to sustain a three-point percentage, he should be among some of the top rookie shooters in the league. So far, he looks like he could be the steal of the 2019 NBA Draft.
Rounding out the top five in Rookie of the Year odds behind Zion is Ja Morant (+380), RJ Barrett (+580), Darius Garland (+2300) and Coby White (+2800).
