The New Orleans Saints hosted the Minnesota Vikings on Christmas in 2020. The scoring opened up with an Alvin Kamara 40-yard touchdown run. That was followed up by a Dalvin Cook touchdown and another Kamara touchdown. Kamara added another touchdown before the half, giving the Saints a 24-14 lead at the break. The dual-threat running back scored in the third and added another two in the fourth quarter to total six on the day.
After the historic performance, Kamara joined the legendary Gale Sayers in the record book. With the help of Kamara, the Saints were able to lock up a playoff spot by winning the NFC South. Along with Sayers, Kamara also joined Ernie Nevers and Dub Jones with a six-touchdown game. With the six touchdowns, Kamara logged a total of 21 touchdowns through 16 weeks. This tied him for 15th in NFL history for most touchdowns in a season.
The 21 touchdowns for Kamara set a career-high for the running back. In terms of most points scored in an NFL game, Kamara tied Sayers and Jones with 36, but Ernie Nevers’ 40 points in 1929 is a record that continues to hold strong.
