After a hugely successful playing career that saw him star for Manchester United and Real Madrid, David Beckham is now the co-owner of Inter Miami.

The English soccer legend, who played in the US for LA Galaxy, will have big ambitions for the new franchise and the long-term aim will be to see the team lift the MLS Cup – as he managed as a player.

To do that, the team will need more quality and despite a busy transfer window with new arrivals coming in, there wasn’t the big-name, global superstar signing that some expected, although Rodolfo Pizarro is well known in Mexico.

So, people will expect a major addition in the coming months or years and here we outline four players who could be on Beckham’s radar…

Lionel Messi

This is obviously going to be a real long shot. However Beckham has mentioned the Argentinian legend in the past and Messi may welcome the chance to experience a new culture, lifestyle and league towards the end of his playing days after spending all of his adult life in Barcelona.

The one thing in Inter Miami’s favor is that Messi has achieved everything when it comes to winning trophies at club level. A major tournament success with his country still eludes the great man but his mere presence in the Argentina team makes them contenders when it comes to the international football betting odds at Copa America or a World Cup.

If he succeeds for his national team, Messi will have done everything, so a few years in another great city shouldn’t be completely ruled out as he winds down his career.

James Rodriguez

Again, this would be tough but the Colombian certainly fits the profile for the sort of player that Beckham would want in Miami.

He would sell plenty of shirts and he is capable of tearing up the MLS with the ability he has, but he is only turning 29 in July. That could prevent any immediate transfer because Rodriguez may feel he can compete in Europe for the next few years.

Yet, having spent the past six seasons at Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, he is surely going to have to take a step down with his next move. Does he have the hunger to thrive elsewhere after all he has done? Or will the lifestyle that Miami can offer appeal?

Pedro

Undoubtedly the most realistic option, Pedro is poised to leave Chelsea and he is a name that has been linked with Inter Miami in the past.

That explosive pace that helped Barcelona win the Champions League and the Blues the Premier League title may not be there but he still has a lot to offer.

The World Cup winner has done it all in the game, he has won everything and ahead of his 33rd birthday he may enjoy becoming the main man in Miami and starting a new, and maybe final, chapter in his playing career.

Ultimately, it’s going to be very tough to attract any of these names to America but Beckham knows more than most that you shouldn’t rule anything out. And, if he can pull off a coup with a big-name arrival, the club he co-owns could be ready to make their mark on MLS in style.
