Houston Texans Preview

The Texans may have dropped their fourth consecutive decision last week, but it wasn’t for lack of effort. Rookie quarterback Davis Mills actually put up an impressive stat line in the win. Houston dictated the entire first half of the game, and Mills finished with over 300 yards passing and three touchdowns. Unfortunately, the Texans’ defense wilted in the second half, and the New England Patriots rallied to win on the final possession. Houston also undoubtedly benefited from the fact that nearly all of the starting Patriots offensive linemen were inactive.

Considering the expectations surrounding the Texans on a weekly basis with Mills under center, even the small victories have to be celebrated. Chris Moore led the team with 109 yards receiving and a score last week. Chris Conley also caught a TD as part of an 84-yard day. Oddly enough, the Texans actually rank 15th in adjusted defensive efficiency through five weeks, per Football Outsiders. Houston is a top-10 pass defense but near the bottom of the league when it comes to stopping the run. They could be in for a long afternoon in Sunday’s NFL betting matchup against a stout Indianapolis offensive front.

Indianapolis Colts Preview

After suffering a heartbreaking overtime loss to the Baltimore Ravens, the Colts now must pick themselves up off the deck on a short week. Before Lamar Jackson decided to go full video game mode in the second half of Monday’s game, the Colts controlled things. QB Carson Wentz had his best game of the season to date with over 400 yards passing and two touchdowns in the loss. Jonathan Taylor also scored for the second consecutive week, finishing with over 160 yards of total offense. Receivers Michael Pittman Jr. and Parris Campbell each had a solid day. The Colts have to be hoping they can replicate their success in this week’s NFL betting contest.

Defensively, the Colts are almost the exact opposite of the Texans through five games. While Indianapolis ranks just 30th in adjusted defense against the pass, they are the second-best run-stopping unit in the league. Overall, the Colts’ D doesn’t appear to be as strong as it was a season ago. Failure to get a single stop down the stretch last week ultimately cost them the win. On the bright side, the Texans’ offense they will be up against this week is nowhere near that of Baltimore’s.
