It’s no secret that the Tennessee Titans need help on the defensive side of the ball. While the interior of the defensive line is solid, but not strong, the edge position is very weak. The Titans tried to address this issue in the 2020 offseason by signing Jadeveon Clowney. But, his production was rather disappointing before his season-ending injury.
Will the Titans solve this issue in the draft or in NFL Free Agency? There are multiple candidates in both pools that can help this defense. However, having experience is always king in the NFL.
With this in mind, these are three Titans free agency targets this offseason.
Titans Free Agency Targets
J.J. Watt, DE
While this is the most obvious choice to fill the need on the defensive side of the ball, the Titans are going against some serious competition to sign Watt. Watt, however, does have a connection with Mike Vrabel; he was Watt’s defensive coordinator for the 2017 season.
Like stated in a previous FlurrySports article, J.J. Watt to the Titans seems to be a nearly perfect landing spot.
If the Titans sign Watt and retain Clowney, we could see a remade 2017 Texans defensive line in Nashville. Watt could be the spark that this Titans defense needs desperately.
Bud Dupree, OLB
While there is no official statement saying that the Titans have contacted Bud Dupree, they definitely should consider him. Dupree is one of the best linebackers/edge rushers in the league. Dupree totaled 31 tackles, eight sacks and two forced fumbles in 11 games last season.
Titans fans have begged Dupree to consider the team during his NFL Free Agency. Dupree responded with..
Jurrell Casey, DT
The former Titan was released by the Denver Broncos this past week. Many fans are calling for the re-signing of longtime fan favorite Jurrell Casey. While this is unlikely, it would be a pleasant surprise to regain Casey on a defensive line that desperately needs some help.
But, did Casey’s trade to the Broncos over a year ago sour his taste to re-sign with the Titans?
Take What You Can Afford
The Titans need to sign someone that can help them on the defensive side of the ball. But, it would be a real shame to repeat what happened with Jadeveon Clowney during the 2020 season.
The key for the Titans is affordability. They must sign someone that they can realistically afford and someone that can produce in a new environment. Watt, Dupree and Casey would all be a great fit in Nashville, and easily could be what this team needs to finally be considered elite.
