FlurrySports has the Super Bowl coin toss history, past results, and the betting odds for the 2026 Super Bowl.

As is the case every year, you can bet on pretty much anything happening in the Super Bowl. From MVP, yards gained, to even whether there is a streaker or not on some websites, if there is a possible event, there is a bet that can be placed. One of the easiest bets to make is one that doesn’t even need you to be an NFL fan to possibly make money on. The coin toss is legitimately a 50/50 chance, which makes it one of the best bets to make. It also allows you to get ahead of the sportsbooks before the game even kicks off. As a result, the coin toss is one of the more fun bets to place for every single Super Bowl.

Super Bowl Coin Toss History

Super Bowl LIX saw the Kansas City Chiefs win the coin toss by correctly calling TAILS. Although the coin toss is supposed to be a straight 50/50 chance, TAILS has the lead when it comes to the all-time Super Bowl coin toss past results. In the 59 previous seasons, TAILS owns a 31-28 advantage.

Both TAILS and HEADS have had some runs of success recently. HEADS won five straight years from Super Bowl XLIII to Super Bowl XLVII. Right after, TAILS won four straight years from Super Bowl XLVIII to Super Bowl LI. Over the past five years, HEADS has hit three times while TAILS has hit twice.

Super Bowl Coin Toss Curse

Unfortunately for teams that win the coin toss, that doesn’t necessarily mean they win the game. Most notably, the Chiefs won the coin toss last year and got absolutely blown out, 40-22, by the Eagles. In the last 11 Super Bowl matchups, the team that has won the coin toss is just 2-9. If you want a fun bet right after the coin toss, bet on the coin toss loser to win Super Bowl LX. You could even parlay the coin toss winner and Super Bowl winner at BetUS Sportsbook.

Overall, the winner of the coin toss has won the Super Bowl 26/59 times (44%). Of those 26 times the winner of the coin toss has won the Super Bowl, it was HEADS 13 times and TAILS 13 times, splitting it right down the middle.

Team-Specific Super Bowl Coin Toss History

The following sections look at the previous Super Bowl coin toss history for this year’s participating teams, the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots.

Seahawks Coin Toss History

The Seattle Seahawks have made it to the Super Bowl three times. In those three games, Seattle is undefeated, winning all three coin tosses. Unfortunately, they have only won one Super Bowl. In their three Super Bowl appearances, the coin toss has come up TAILS all three times as well. While going 1-2 in the Super Bowl is not at all out of the ordinary, the Seahawks going 3-0 in the Super Bowl coin toss and having the win be TAILS each time is quite the coincidence.

For anybody who thinks the Seahawks will win the coin toss, it may make sense to pick TAILS to be the winning side. If you think TAILS will win, then it might be smart to pick Seattle to win the toss as well.

Patriots Coin Toss History

Unlike the Seahawks, the Patriots have a much more robust Super Bowl history. New England has made the Super Bowl 11 times before this year. They have a 6-5 record in the game but just a 3-8 record in the coin toss. In those 11 matchups, TAILS has come up five times and HEADS has come up six times, making it a pretty even split.

There isn’t much of a correlation between Super Bowl coin toss past results and their record. Out of their five losses, two of them have come when the coin landed on TAILS and three when it landed on HEADS. Unfortunately, there isn’t much precedent when it comes to coin toss results and what happens in the game.
