For a team that earned the 2-seed in the loaded Western Conference, the Suns drew about as undesirable a First Round matchup as one could imagine. The Lakers’ decision to coast through the regular season could result in an early postseason exit for Phoenix. That being said, the Suns certainly have to be excited about the performances they’ve gotten from some of their franchise cornerstones. Center Deandre Ayton posted a third straight double-double in the Game 3 loss, finishing with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Devin Booker was quieter on Thursday but still finished with 19 points and 6 assists. If Phoenix is to bounce back in this series, they desperately need veteran Chris Paul to pick it up. The point guard just hasn’t been the same since briefly exiting Game 1 with a shoulder injury.

After Thursday, it seems fair to question whether the Lakers have more than just a ‘Big Two’. For the second consecutive game, Dennis Schroder went off, scoring 20 points and dishing 4 assists. Along with a double-double effort from Anthony Davis and the best performance we’ve seen yet this postseason from LeBron James, L.A. was able to cruise to a 2-1 series lead. The Lakers are now firmly in the driver’s seat as NBA betting favorites with Game 4 also being on their home floor. Defense was a major catalyst on their way to winning an NBA championship last season, and Los Angeles is proving its metal on the defensive end once again in this series as well.
