Sporting Events to Look Forward to Before the End of the Summer

31 July: Community Shield: Liverpool vs Manchester City

Coinciding with the Women’s Euro final at Wembley on Sunday, FA and Carabao Cup winners Liverpool will take on Premier League champions Manchester City in a clash of the titans encounter for the Community Shield.

Due to the Women’s Euro taking center stage at Wembley, the traditional home of the Community Shield, this year’s final has been moved to the King Power Stadium — the home of defending champions Leicester City.

5 August: Premier League restart

Sticking with football, the Premier League restarts on August 5th with Crystal Palace hosting London rivals Arsenal at Selhurst Park. Liverpool travels to Fulham for the early kick-off on August 6th as they look to challenge for the title again, while Frank Lampard’s Everton are paid a visit by Chelsea later in the day. Defending champions Man City kick things off against West Ham at the London Stadium on August 7th

17-20 August: York Ebor Festival

There might only be a couple of months left of the flat season, but there is a lot to look forward to before the campaign’s conclusion at British Champions Day at Ascot in mid-October — with the York Ebor Festival the highlight of the month before the end of season features, like l’Arc de Triomphe and St Leger, take precedence.

The Ebor meeting runs for four action-packed days between 17-20 August, with three Group 1 races — the Juddmonte International, the Yorkshire Oaks and the Nunthorpe Stakes — as well as the Ebor itself, which is a Heritage Handicap that dates back to 1843.

20 August: Anthony Joshua vs Oleksandr Usyk 2

Anthony Joshua will be out for redemption on August 20th as he has the opportunity to avenge the second defeat of his career against Oleksandr Usyk after the Ukrainian won via decision when the pair first met at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium back in September 2021.

The second bout is due to take place at the 40,000-seater Jeddah Superdome in Saudi Arabia, where Joshua famously regained his WBA (Super), IBF, WBO and IBO titles from Andy Ruiz Jr. after he was shocked by the American on his stateside debut at Madison Square Garden in 2019.

27 August: Gold Cup and Summer Stayers Classic

Greyhound racing’s Category One schedule begins to heat up later in the month, with the Towcester Marathon and the Nottingham Puppy Classic both taking place on the 28th and 29th, respectively.

We’re going to zone in on Monmore Green though, where two Category One finals headline the same card on August 27th. The 480-meter Gold Cup, worth £10,000, sets the tone before the 630-meter Summer Stayers’ Classic (£7,500) takes the center stage later in the night. Both are starting to gain some traction in the greyhound tips today
