With the 19th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the New Orleans Saints draft Trevor Penning, offensive tackle out of Northern Iowa. Penning is a high character man off the field, but one of the meanest S.O.B.’s on it. He is as physical as it comes. Let’s take a look at the mean offensive tackle.

Trevor Penning Draft Profile

Strengths

Trevor Penning is a mauler. He is a mean, tough, old-school type of offensive lineman that has the mentality that every winning offensive line needs. When asked to describe his style of play in three words, Penning said, “Physical. Nasty. Prick.” It’s tough to describe him any better than that.

He’s physical, already has the build of an NFL tackle, and he will be elite in the running game. Penning is a bulldozer. While he played left tackle at Northern Iowa, he shows the ability to play on either side in the NFL.

Weaknesses

Of course, the easiest weakness for players like Penning will always be the level of competition. No, he did not play against the best at Northern Iowa, obviously. Penning also has the tendency to get a bit too high in his pass protection and, while he is athletic, gets a bit off-balance in the open field.

What to Expect From Trevor Penning in 2022

Having to fight his way onto the scene, Trevor Penning is not afraid of some hard work. He has continued to improve, and this improvement should continue in the NFL. Penning does everything well, and he does it with a bit of attitude. With the Saints, look for him to start immediately in Week 1. Though he could have some rookie hiccups early on, as he sees a big jump in competition, he should bring some dog mentality to that offensive line.
