The Raheem Mostert fantasy football owners received a bit of surprising news on Sunday morning. The San Francisco 49ers have decided to make rookie running back Trey Sermon inactive for Week 1 against the Detroit Lions. While this obviously means Sermon should be sat, it also makes Mostert a must-start.

Raheem Mostert Fantasy Value Following Trey Sermon News

If you have been following along on FlurrySports this week, you know Raheem Mostert has been a popular play from more than one of us. I cited general manager John Lynch who called Mostert the Niners’ lead back, while Sermon would be added depth to the backfield. I ranked them as such, but there will clearly be a larger update coming prior to kickoff.

Two surprising inactives… Trey Sermon and Zack Moss are OUT. Please refer to him as Raheem MUST-START. Massive game coming for Mostert today and Singletary now flex play viable.

Trey Sermon will be inactive today. This means Mostert will be given all the opportunity in the world to run against the terrible Detroit defense. This is also a game in which San Francisco expects to be in full control, meaning game flow points to a run-heavy attack as well.

It’s possible you drafted Raheem Mostert as your third, fourth or maybe fifth running back. You need to start him today. Whether that means he is your flex or in your lineup as one of your RB slots, it does not matter. He is a top-15 guy easily, with top-five upside.

If you’re creating any DFS lineups, this obviously means Mostert is a great value play. You must have exposure to him, but also realize that he is an injury-prone RB than many will be fitting in their lineups. Have exposure, but don’t go all-in.
