Providence vs Richmond Prediction | March Madness Picks and Bracketology

Although Providence was favored in the First Round, one could call the Friars’ victory over South Dakota State a marginal surprise. After all, the whole world seemed to be in love with the Jackrabbits as an upset pick. Providence may have the highest Luck Rating of any team in the country, but it takes much more than luck to win a regular-season championship in the rugged Big East Conference.

As for Richmond, a victory over Big Ten Tournament Champion Iowa was a true stunner. The Spiders had to win four games in four days at the A10 Tournament just to qualify for March Madness. After knocking off the Hawkeyes as a double-digit underdog, a senior-laden Richmond team now finds itself in the Second Round of the Big Dance.

While the experience of players like Jacob Gilyard, Grant Golden and Nathan Cayo will continue to serve the Spiders well for as long as their Cinderella run continues, Providence is also a veteran bunch. Even with all of their luck this season, the Friars still have a demonstrative edge over Richmond when it comes to most key statistics. From the standpoint of athleticism, Nate Watson figures to have a stark advantage over Golden and the other Richmond bigs.

While the entire betting market and college basketball betting world seem to be hell-bent on fading the Friars, we’ll actually buy in on the 4-seed for this matchup. Considering Providence’s talent and athleticism advantages, a three-point spread seems far too cheap.

Our college basketball betting Providence vs Richmond prediction tonight will be Providence -3 at BetUS

For what it’s worth, the ESPN Matchup Predictor gives Providence a 60.4% chance to win.
