While the other 30 NHL teams have to endure five more days of pre-season, the San Jose Sharks and Nashville Predators have already played a game that will count in the record books. The puck dropped on the NHL’s regular season from the O2 Arena in Prague, Czech Republic today with this Sharks vs Predators matchup.

This marks the first of a two-game series between the Sharks and Predators, and the third of four events in this 2022 “NHL Global Series,” which will wrap up with the Colorado Avalanche against the Columbus Blue Jackets at the Nokia Arena in Tampere, Finland on November 4th & 5th.

Sharks vs Predators Game Recap

In a Sharks vs Predators game where shots on goal were nearly equal, the score was anything but. The Predators elected to start goaltender Juuse Saros, who was very good for them last year before suffering a season-ending lower-body injury during the NHL Playoffs. Saros was especially sharp against the Sharks last season, winning all three contests and allowing just one goal on 75 shots across them.

Goals for the Predators were scored by Kiefer Sherwood, who took all of 61 seconds to get on the score sheet, Eeli Tolvanen, Nino Niederreiter and Matt Duchene.

In net for the Sharks was veteran James Reimer. He is one of three goaltenders who will be fighting for playing time in San Jose this season. The lone Sharks goal came from assistant captain Tomas Hertl, who was born and raised in the Czech Republic and claims Prague as his hometown.

These two teams will square off once again tomorrow afternoon, Saturday, October 8th, at 2:00 PM EST inside the O2 Arena.
