Since a rough three-game stretch that saw the Panthers lose two of three, including a 90-57 drubbing by Mississippi State, Pittsburgh is 5-0 and looking to make a surprise run for the ACC. While they certainly haven’t played the toughest competition on paper, they’ve played some solid opponents in Wisconsin and West Virginia.
The Panthers are led by guards Ishmael Leggett and Jaland Lowe. The pair both average over 17 points per game and lead a team that shoots the ball well from the free throw line and from the field as a whole. The one issue for Pittsburgh so far this season has been their ability to shoot the ball from deep, making under 36% from downtown.
That issue has unfortunately been the story of the season for Pittsburgh. In their biggest win of the year, a 86-62 beatdown of now #21 West Virginia, the Panthers hit 37% of their shots from deep. In two of their more disappointing losses, a six-point home loss to Wisconsin and a 33-point loss to #14 Mississippi State, the Panthers shot just 21% and 30% respectively from behind the arc.
