The 2022 Patriot League Basketball Tournament will be hard-pressed to top what we saw from this conference a season ago. Loyola (Maryland) went on a Cinderella run through the Patriot League Tournament bracket as a 9-seed. The Greyhounds ultimately fell short in the title game, losing to Colgate. The Raiders are looking to win their third Patriot League Tournament in the last four years and enter as the 1-seed this season. The following contains the Patriot League Tournament bracket and schedule, as well as a preview of what we can expect to see.

Patriot League Conference Breakdown

Last year saw Colgate benefit from Loyola (Maryland) knocking off multiple top-four seeds on their run through the bracket. The Raiders will look to avoid a similar fate this season after clinching the Patriot League basketball regular-season title and 1-seed in the conference tournament. A tournament championship would be the fifth all-time for Colgate and the school’s third in the last four seasons. Bucknell and Holy Cross are tied for the most Patriot League Tournament championships all-time with six apiece. Meanwhile, 2-seed Navy is seeking its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1998.

Only Colgate and Navy managed to finish out the regular season among the top 250 teams in the College Basketball Net Rankings. In fact, only half of the conference’s 10 teams finished within the top-300 in the Net. Joining the top two seeds with this distinction were Loyola (Maryland), Boston University and Army. While neither team was successful in limited Quad I opportunities, Colgate and Navy combined to go 3-5 against Quad II opponents. The only other Patriot League basketball team to score a Quad II victory was Lafayette.

There was some shuffling right at the top of the conference from the Patriot League basketball preseason poll to the final standings. 3-seed Boston University underachieved a bit after receiving 11 of 20 first-place votes before the season began. American University also underachieved in a big way. The Eagles are the 10-seed in the Patriot League Tournament bracket after being picked to finish fifth. On the other side of the spectrum, Lehigh is seeded fourth in the bracket after being pegged to finish dead last.
