With the 132nd overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers draft Romeo Doubs, wide receiver out of Nevada. The Packers had an obvious need at wide receiver and a desire to get faster at the position. With their selections of Christian Watson and Doubs, they have certainly gotten faster. Strengths

Romeo Doubs carries massive yardage potential. He attacks downfield at an elite level and can reach the 100-yard mark in a flash. Doubs has an excellent release, giving him an advantage in route running which allows him many open catches, leading to a very low 5.8% career drop rate. He also has the ability to finish the big plays, scoring 20 touchdowns in the last two seasons.

Weaknesses

Despite having a large frame, Romeo Doubs struggles against well-positioned defenders. Across four years as a starter, opposing coverage got the better of him on 40-of-68 (59%) of contested balls. Of course, this was against the level of competition he faced at Nevada.

What to Expect From Romeo Doubs in 2022

I projected Romeo Doubs to the Packers, so I clearly like this draft pick. He should be a fit for Green Bay. However, to expect much of him in his rookie year, despite there not being much competition for snaps, is a tough ask.

Yes, he has the tools and skills to be a contributor in this league. However, when you struggle with defenders in the Mountain West conference, the transition to the NFL is going to be a big one.

Where Doubs can hopefully leave an impact this season is as punt returner. He averaged 12.5 yards per punt return in college, bringing one pack to the house. Doubs is faster than Amari Rodgers, so if he can secure the catch, he should be the Packers’ weapon on punt return.
