Just like you eat cranberry sauce and stuffing every Thanksgiving, we all watch football on turkey day. While there are three great NFL games to watch, there also is the Egg Bowl college football between matchup of Ole Miss vs Mississippi State.
In the last four years, each school has beaten the other twice. Two years ago, the two teams broke out into a massive fight as the final seconds ticked away. In 2019, now Jets wide receiver Elijah Moore caught a touchdown with four seconds left, bringing the Rebels within one point against the Bulldogs. However, after scoring, Moore crouched over and lifted his leg to make it look like a dog was peeing. Moore was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct. Of course, the ensuing extra point missed.
The Egg Bowl’s winner every year takes possession of the Golden Egg. They first started handing out the trophy in 1927 to prevent fighting within the game. The name “Egg Bowl” came to life in 1978 when The Clarion-Ledger gave the game the title that season. Neither team had won enough games to go to a bowl game.
This has all the makings of a great rivalry game. Two high-scoring and fast-moving offenses will duke it out. On the defensive side of the ball, it might only take two or three stops to win this game. It should be a crazy game, and a high-scoring affair. Ole Miss leads the all-time series, 63-48-6, but can they pull out another one tonight in Starkville?

Ole Miss vs Mississippi State Prediction
If this game were taking place about three weeks ago, Ole Miss would be favored and I would take them. However, over there last six games, the Rebels are only averaging 28.2 points per game. On top of that, quarterback Matt Corral is banged up. With that being said, the Rebel offense will keep humming no matter who is under center. Which makes this a prime spot for the over. Will Rogers, Mississippi State quarterback who is now getting Heisman love, has been fantastic late in the season. In the Bulldogs last five games, Rogers has thrown for over 340 yards in each one. Over the last four games, he’s thrown for 16 touchdowns and only one interception. With Mike Leach calling the plays, the Bulldogs will score and score a lot on a bad Ole Miss defense.
Really, this game will all come down to whichever defense can get the most stops. Both defenses are bad, Ole Miss ranks 101st in the nation in total defense. I think Mississippi State controls this game, and scores early and often. Ole Miss will have a great start to the second half and come within reach of Mississippi State. However, I’m going back to my roots and just picking the over here. Will Rogers is on an unbelievable tear as of late. Matt Corrall will be one of the first quarterbacks drafted in the 2022 NFL Draft. Make sure to tune in at 7:30 PM ET to catch a great college football game.
Ole Miss vs Mississippi State Prediction: Over 64.5
