Taking a look at the notable fantasy football snap counts from every game in NFL Week 1.
If you have followed my fantasy football coverage for any point in time, you have heard me say the following: “Opportunity leads to productivity in fantasy football.” I project value in many ways, but snap count and total looks (carries + targets) weigh heavily in that projection. It makes sense, right? The more opportunities you have to touch the football, the more often you will. The best ability is availability. Low man wins, and every other great sports cliche that makes sense (or doesn’t) here.
Yes, we all did our research during the preseason to see which players would be used most. However, every coach uses the preseason differently. There isn’t a ton of value to take from preseason games. So, taking a look at the fantasy football snap counts early in the season can help set you up for success for the rest of the season. You certainly don’t want to be a box score analyst, since there were some brutal stat lines.
This week, I’m giving you this info for free (I’m a saint, I know). HOWEVER, my beautiful members will have access to this data afterwards! We will look at the snap counts early in the season, then my special Opportunity Index will be released each week for members. This is something you will want to have. In other words, BECOME A MEMBER HERE if you want access to this information, a group chat with me to ask questions, a trade value chart, and more later in the season! The cost? Notable Fantasy Football Snap Counts From Week 1
Cowboys vs Eagles | NFL Snap Counts
Dallas Cowboys (61 Total)
- RB Javonte Williams (47)
- RB Miles Sanders (11)
- WR CeeDee Lamb (56)
- WR George Pickens (56)
- WR KaVontae Turpin (28)
- WR Jalen Tolbert (27)
Philadelphia Eagles (62 Total)
- RB Saquon Barkley (49)
- RB AJ Dillon (8)
- RB Will Shipley (5)
- WR AJ Brown (54)
- WR DeVonta Smith (55)
- WR Jahan Doctson (28)
The Cowboys were without rookie Jaydon Blue in this game, and Javonte Williams was the clear RB1. Blue will return as the change-of-pace, but Williams has earned the opportunity to keep the lead job. As for WR3, the Cowboys want to use Turpin creatively.
Despite saying they could manage his workload, Saquon Barkley was the bellcow in a close game. Jahan Doctson was the WR3, but the Eagles ran 2TE often, with TE Grant Calcaterra seeing 27 snaps as well.
Chiefs vs Chargers | NFL Snap Counts
Kansas City Chiefs (61 Total)
- RB Isiah Pacheco (31)
- RB Kareen Hunt (23)
- RB Brashard Smith (8)
- WR Marquise Brown (57)
- WR JuJu Smith-Schuster (49)
- WR Tyquan Thornton (44)
- WR Xavier Worthy (3)
Los Angeles Chargers (65 Total)
- RB Omarion Hampton (52)
- RB Najee Harris (12)
- WR Ladd McConkey (55)
- WR Quentin Johnston (53)
- WR Keenan Allen (40)
- WR KeAndre Lambert-Smith (14)
- WR Tre Harris (5)
- TE Will Dissly (37)
- TE Tyler Conklin (28)
Xavier Worthy left after three snaps. He was expected to be a focal point, so everything changed after that. Tyquan Thornton was used to replicate his downfield speed while JuJu Smith-Schuster worked underneath. Travis Kelce saw a heavy workload as well.
While rookies are typically eased in, that wasn’t the case here. Omarion Hampton has been the one in camp, and he dominated snaps. Instead, it is veteran Najee Harris’ snaps that should increase a little as the season progresses — a little backwards there. As for WR, look at Quentin Johnston! Dominated snaps and did a lot with them. Clearly, rookie Tre Harris is not close to a threat at this time. The TE snaps will continue to be split, but Tyler Conklin is the better receiver.
Buccaneers vs Falcons | NFL Snap Counts
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (58 Total)
- RB Bucky Irving (44)
- RB Rachaad White (14)
- WR Emeka Egbuka (54)
- WR Mike Evans (48)
- WR Sterling Shepard (37)
Atlanta Falcons (76 Total)
- RB Bijan Robinson (63)
- RB Tyler Allgeier (19)
- WR Casey Washington (72)
- WR Drake London (67)
- WR Ray-Ray McCloud (55)
- TE Kyle Pitts (59)
Despite the poor fantasy performance from Bucky Irving, he dominated usage and should be expected to return to normal production soon. However, the one who combined both dominant usage and production was rookie Emeka Egbuka. Even when Chris Godwin returns, Egbuka looks too good to simply be a depth piece.
While Bijan Robinson dominated snaps, he nearly split carries with Tyler Allgeier evenly, which doesn’t feel like a fluke. The receiving corps is beat up, as Darnell Mooney missed the game with a shoulder injury, while Drake London suffered his own in this game. If both were to miss, Washington, McCloud and also KhaDarel Hodge would all emerge as relevant for fantasy.
Bengals vs Browns | NFL Snap Counts
Cincinnati Bengals (52 Total)
- RB Chase Brown (39)
- RB Samaje Perine (13)
- TE Drew Sample (36)
- TE Noah Fant (26)
- TE Mike Gesicki (16)
Cleveland Browns (76 Total)
- RB Jerome Ford (41)
- RB Dylan Sampson (33)
- RB Raheim Sanders (3)
- WR Jerry Jeudy (67)
- WR Cedric Tillman (67)
- WR Isaiah Bond (21)
- WR Jamari Thrash (21)
- TE David Njoku (64)
- TE Harold Fannin Jr. (55)
The Bengals played very few snaps in this game, so being inefficient with fewer snaps made things tough. Perine played 13 snaps and ran 10 routes, and that will continue to be his role. The wide receivers are locked in, with Andrei Iosivas as the clear WR3 (34 snaps). Tight end was split, but the indication is that Mike Gesicki does not need to be owned.
The Browns signed rookie Quinshon Judkins, but he did not play here. Look for him to be eased into the offense next week as a perfect “thunder” to fellow rookie Dylan Sampson’s “lightning.” Sampson’s snaps and usage in this game are legit. Ford played a lot, but did nothing with the snaps that Judkins will take. The other thing of note is how much the Browns love rookie Harold Fannin Jr., who will be used all over the lineup.
Dolphins vs Colts | NFL Snap Counts
Miami Dolphins (47 Total)
- RB De’Von Achane (34)
- RB Ollie Gordon (12)
- WR Jaylen Waddle (30)
- WR Tyreek Hill (29)
- WR Malik Washington (28)
- WR Nick Westbrook-Ikhine (20)
Indianapolis Colts (73 Total)
- WR Michael Pittman Jr. (60)
- WR Alex Pierce (58)
- WR Josh Downs (36)
- WR Adonai Mitchell (15)
- TE Tyler Warren (53)
This game was as bad as it could be for the Dolphins. However, I’m unsure if this is a fluke, considering I said preseason they could compete for the top overall draft pick. They have a tough matchup next week, but snaps here are pretty predictable. Darren Waller was out for this game. If he can return and stay healthy, he will likely play about half of the snaps, but he likely doesn’t need to be owned.
For the Colts, they were in complete control, so they were able to run the ball and stay balanced. Josh Downs played in 3WR sets, while rookie TE Tyler Warren lived up to the hype I gave him. He is a must-own, must-start player in this offense.
Raiders vs Patriots | NFL Snap Counts
Las Vegas Raiders (63 Total)
- WR Jakobi Meyers (59)
- WR Tre Tucker (57)
- WR Dont’e Thornton Jr. (38)
- WR Jack Bech (4)
- TE Michael Mayer (40)
- TE Brock Bowers (32)
New England Patriots (71 Total)
- RB Rhamondre Stevenson (46)
- RB TreVeyon Henderson (25)
- RB Antonio Gibson (5)
- WR Kayshon Boutte (58)
- WR DeMario Douglas (45)
- WR Stefon Diggs (40)
- WR Mack Hollins (38)
- TE Hunter Henry (66)
- TE Austin Hooper (23)
Obviously, the concern in Vegas is Brock Bowers’ knee injury, which limited his snaps here. He said he will be fine, but the Raiders love Michael Mayer enough to limit Bowers next week, if need be. Clearly, Tre Tucker is currently the WR2, but it’s rookie Dont’e Thornton Jr. who projects better as an every-down outside receiver, so look for his snaps to grow. At RB, Raheem Mostert was a healthy scratch.
For the Patriots’ backfield, as I repeated at nauseam in the preseason, TreVeyon Henderson will not be a bellcow, and they also like what Rhamondre Stevenson gives them. The Week 1 fantasy football snap counts reflected my thoughts. Henderson’s role will grow. Once again: Henderson is not and will not be a bellcow. Grow up. Anyways… the receiving corps was led by Kayshon Boutte, who is a name to watch. Stefon Diggs should see his snaps rise a bit, but he likely won’t see as large a snap share as in recent seasons. Hunter Henry will likely be a reliable, low-ceiling fantasy TE this season.
It has come to my attention that many of you think this note about TreVeyon Henderson was weird. But yes, I have been on the front line arguing with morons who think McDaniels will feature him as a bellcow. We don’t need to baby these people.

Cardinals vs Saints | NFL Snap Counts
Arizona Cardinals (66 Total)
- RB James Conner (43)
- RB Trey Benson (22)
- WR Marvin Harrison Jr (59)
- WR Michael Wilson (44)
- WR Zay Jones (31)
New Orleans Saints (75 Total)
- RB Alvin Kamara (59)
- RB Kendre Miller (11)
- WR Chris Olave (64)
- WR Rashid Shaheed (64)
- WR Brandin Cooks (57)
- WR DeVaughn Vele (17)
There isn’t much to say about the Cardinals, but their backfield appears to be 2/3 James Conner, 1/3 Trey Benson. Given how they spoke this preseason, this feels about right going forward as well.
In the most shocking news of the weekend, Chris Olave went to the medical tent… twice. This didn’t seem to limit his snaps, but this will continue this season. The Saints’ divide between starters and bench players couldn’t be clearer.
Steelers vs Jets | NFL Snap Counts
Pittsburgh Steelers (56 Total)
- RB Kenneth Gainwell (29)
- RB Jaylen Warren (25)
- RB Kaleb Johnson (2)
- WR DK Metcalf (54)
- WR Calvin Austin III (45)
- WR Roman Wilson (10)
- WR Ben Skowronek (10)
- TE Jonnu Smith (37)
- TE Pat Freiermuth (28)
New York Jets (64 Total)
- RB Breece Hall (37)
- RB Braelon Allen (20)
- RB Isaiah Davis (8)
- WR Garrett Wilson (64)
- WR Josh Reynolds (62)
- WR Tyler Johnson (33)
- TE Mason Taylor (56)
The Steelers really like what Kenneth Gainwell gives them. And as I said on our fantasy football stream last week (join us before TNF), Pittsburgh is not going to risk a rookie making rookie mistakes and ruining this season. So, Kaleb Johnson will be eased along, to put it gently. Also, Calvin Austin III is the clear WR2, and he played well on Sunday.
The Jets played 11 non-linemen on offense, which is the fewest of the weekend. Breece Hall is leading the backfield, but Braelon Allen is used regularly. Josh Reynolds is the WR2, and Tyler Johnson comes in as the third WR. With how physically they played, we will see how these receivers hold up.
Giants vs Commanders | NFL Snap Counts
New York Giants (68 Total)
- RB Tyrone Tracy (50)
- RB Devin Singletary (10)
- RB Cam Skattebo (8)
- WR Darius Slayton (66)
- WR Malik Nabers (64)
- WR Wan’Dale Robinson (52)
Washington Commanders (70 Total)
- RB Austin Ekeler (33)
- RB Jacory Croskey-Merritt (23)
- WR Terry McLaurin (55)
- WR Deebo Samuel (54)
- WR Noah Brown (33)
- WR Jaylin Lane (21)
The Giants essentially used just three WRs, with Breaux Collins playing two snaps as the WR4. The backfield was dominated by Tyrone Tracy, which doesn’t appear to be a fluke. If they find themselves with a lead, Cam Skattebo could play a bit more as a bruiser, but Tracy is the three-down RB here.
Chris Rodriguez was a healthy scratch, giving us some clarity on the Commanders’ backfield. While Austin Ekeler played most of the snaps, Jacory Croskey-Merritt earned snaps as the game went on, and he led in carries. Ekeler took every snap in the first quarter. With the short week, expect more running and more Croskey-Merritt, if they are able to move the chains. Zach Ertz dominated routes at TE, with John Bate running just seven routes to Ertz’s 30.
Panthers vs Jaguars | NFL Snap Counts
Carolina Panthers (64 Total)
- RB Chuba Hubbard (43)
- RB Rico Dowdle (22)
- WR Tetairoa McMillan (53)
- WR Xavier Legette (50)
- WR Hunter Renfrow (42)
Jacksonville Jaguars (66 Total)
- RB Travis Etienne (40)
- RB Tank Bigsby (14)
- RB Bhayshul Tuten (4)
- WR Brian Thomas Jr. (57)
- WR Dyami Brown (47)
- WR Travis Hunter (42)
All three of the Panthers’ top WRs ran the same number of routes for the most part, and we can assume Coker just replaces Renfrow once healthy. For the backfield, Chuba Hubbard dominated usage and isn’t at risk of losing that spot.
On Jacksonville’s side, Travis Etienne dominated the backfield and looks like the clear leader there. Even Tank Bigsby was barely used, while the rookie was nonexistent. This is a backfield to monitor, though their lead in this would suggest a more pro-Bigsby game, and he didn’t get that nod. While Travis Hunter wasn’t the every-down WR as initially described, he ran 27/33 routes.
Titans vs Broncos | NFL Snap Counts
Tennessee Titans (57 Total)
- RB Tony Pollard (51)
- RB Julius Chestnut (6)
- WR Calvin Ridley (54)
- WR Elic Ayomanor (45)
- WR Tyler Lockett (33)
- WR Chimere Dike (10)
Denver Broncos (76 Total)
- RB JK Dobbins (40)
- RB RJ Harvey (22)
- WR Courtland Sutton (72)
- WR Troy Franklin (45)
- WR Marvin Mims Jr. (40)
- TE Adam Trautman (44)
- TE Evan Engram (26)
Backup RB Tyjae Spears is out to start the season, so the Titans’ backfield was dominated by veteran Tony Pollard. We were trying to figure out who would be left out at WR, and it looks to be Van Jefferson, while rookie Elic Ayomanor ran 28-of-34 routes.
It’s not surprising that JK Dobbins led the Broncos’ backfield, as he is more trustworthy as both a runner and in pass protection right now. However, He and rookie RJ Harvey ran the same number of routes (14). The WR2 for Denver is split between Troy Franklin and Marvin Mims Jr. evenly right now, and TE routes were split evenly (18) between Adam Trautman and Evan Engram as well. However, Engram is obviously the better target and actually has plays called for him.
49ers vs Seahawks | NFL Snap Counts
San Francisco 49ers (76 Total)
- RB Christian McCaffrey (58)
- RB Brian Robinson Jr. (18)
- WR Ricky Pearsall (64)
- WR Jauan Jennings (50)
- WR Russell Gage (28)
- WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling (27)
Seattle Seahawks (52 Total)
- RB Zach Charbonnet (30)
- RB Kenneth Walker (21)
- WR Cooper Kupp (46)
- WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba (40)
- WR Tory Horton (28)
- TE AJ Barner (44)
- TE Elijah Arroyo (28)
The 49ers are beat up, and it continued here. George Kittle hurt his hamstring and could be out next week. Christian McCaffrey seemed iffy to play but dominated snaps, so how will his body respond going forward? Aside from that, WR3 was split evenly between Gage and MVS. So, who cares?
This was a talking point we had, so it’s interesting to see it play out. I think Kenneth Walker is one of the most talented RBs in the league, but I think Zach Charbonnet suits the Kubiak offense better. For Week 1, that meant Charbonnet had most of the snaps and carries and did more with them. Don’t overreact to this yet, but this does seem to be a true split. Cooper Kupp ran more routes than any other Seahawk but was targeted three times. This should rise. Theoretically, Sam Darnold has to target someone else than Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
Lions vs Packers | NFL Snap Counts
Detroit Lions (67 Total)
- RB Jahmyr Gibbs (44)
- RB David Montgomery (25)
- WR Jameson Williams (65)
- WR Amon-Ra St. Brown (63)
- WR Kalif Raymond (44)
- WR Isaac TeSlaa (3)
Green Bay Packers (48 Total)
- WR Romeo Doubs (34)
- WR Matthew Golden (23)
- WR Dontayvion Wicks (22)
- WR Jayden Reed (18)
- TE Tucker Kraft (44)
- TE Luke Musgrave (17)
All Isaac TeSlaa does is catch touchdowns. He did it in the preseason, and he came in during garbage time to catch one here. He’s a solid player, so I imagine his snaps rise. The backfield should continue to be a split, with David Montgomery seeing more work when Detroit has a lead and can take control of the line of scrimmage (not the case here).
Packers WR Jayden Reed has worked his way back from a foot injury and was iffy to play, but he looked good in limited snaps. These should slowly rise. Matthew Golden barely ran half of the routes in this game, and that should rise as well. As for the RBs, this is Josh Jacobs’ backfield. If he goes down, Emmanuel Wilson will be the one to own, but he will not be valuable while Jacobs is active.
Texans vs Rams | NFL Snap Counts
Houston Texans (63 Total)
- RB Nick Chubb (32)
- RB Dare Ogunbowale (17)
- WR Nico Collins (53)
- WR Xavier Hutchinson (43)
- WR Justin Watson (35)
- WR Jayden Higgins (27)
Los Angeles Rams (60 Total)
- RB Kyren Williams (49)
- RB Blake Corum (10)
- WR Davante Adams (55)
- WR Puka Nacua (38)
- WR Jordan Whittington (30)
- WR Tutu Atwell (25)
With Joe Mixon out at least the first month of the season, fellow veteran Nick Chubb dominated the snaps and played alright with them. Given the game’s result, we will see if Houston looks to work in more youth sooner rather than later. The tight end snaps were split evenly (avoid), and Xavier Hutchinson played as the clear WR2 over the two rookies. However, Jayden Higgins led the team in receiving yards with just 14 routes run. It was 32 yards, so big whoop, but his role should grow.
Kyren Williams dominated the Rams’ backfield, silencing his doubters per usual. Davante Adams was the every-down receiver in this one, while Puka Nacua left the game after bleeding from his eye. Watch his status.
Ravens vs Bills | NFL Snap Counts
Baltimore Ravens (51 Total)
- RB Derrick Henry (29)
- RB Justice Hill (23)
- WR Zay Flowers (46)
- WR Rashod Bateman (37)
- WR DeAndre Hopkins (18)
- TE Mark Andrews (38)
- TE Charlie Kolar (31)
Buffalo Bills (85 Total)
- RB James Cook (48)
- RB Ty Johnson (28)
- RB Ray Davis (10)
- TE Dawson Knox (49)
- TE Dalton Kincaid (42)
For the Ravens, Keaton Mitchell was a scratch. His role has continued to be a bit confusing to me, but we will see if he gets some playing time later in the season as a new wrinkle to the offense. Justice Hill continues to play quite a bit in close games where the Ravens are passing the ball. Isaiah Likely was out, but Mark Andrews didn’t dominate tight end routes (loser). DeAndre Hopkins played just 18 snaps but ran a little over half of the routes. He will continue to be a third-down and red zone guy.
Ray Davis barely played in this game, but he is still a valuable handcuff. For receivers, the top three WRs are clear, while the TE split is also clear. However, Kincaid ran 32 routes to Knox’s 24. Look at Keon Coleman emerging as the WR1 on this team.
Vikings vs Bears | NFL Snap Counts
Minnesota Vikings (56 Totals)
- RB Jordan Mason (30)
- RB Aaron Jones (28)
Chicago Bears (67 Total)
- RB D’Andre Swift (54)
- RB Kyle Monangai (9)
- WR Rome Odunze (63)
- WR DJ Moore (56)
- WR Olamide Zaccheaus (30)
- WR Luther Burden III (18)
- TE Cole Kmet (60)
- TE Colston Loveland (38)
The Vikings’ backfield was a true 50/50 split in this game. However, Mason doubled Jones’ carries while Jones ran seven more routes. In Adam Thielen’s return to the Vikings, he operated as the slot receiver, while Justin Jefferson and Jalen Nailor played in 2WR sets. When Jordan Addison returns, expect Thielen to continue getting slot snaps.
With Roschon Johnson out, D’Andre Swift dominated the Bears’ backfield. Chicago also seemed to ease their rookies in, with Luther Burden III and Colston Loveland also seeing limited snaps. However, it is important to note how much the Bears like Olamide Zaccheaus, so it could be tough for Burden to earn snaps as a rookie, as long as everyone is healthy.
