If you are unaware of what NFL survivor picks are, the basic concept is you make NFL picks throughout the season, but you can only pick a team once. Once you lose, you’re knocked out, so choose your Week 9 NFL Survivor Pool picks wisely.
If you are new to reading my survivor articles, what I do is outline my “lock of the week,” my “value of the week” and my “high-risk, high-reward pick.”
The lock of the week details what team I think has the best chance of winning their matchup. This would most likely be a good team that plays a bad team. The lock is also the official pick for NFL Survivor Pools, meaning we will not reuse a “lock.” My value pick of the week details a mid-tier team that has a good matchup. And finally, my high-risk, high-reward pick details a bad team that has a good matchup. It may be worth it to look at the NFL betting odds for these games and place some bets as well.
Teams Used:
- Baltimore Ravens
- Buffalo Bills
- Jacksonville Jaguars
- Kansas City Chiefs
- Detroit Lions
- Miami Dolphins
- Seattle Seahawks
- Philadelphia Eagles

Cleveland Browns vs. Arizona Cardinals
The Cleveland Browns have been average at best this year, but they do have wins over the 49ers and the Bengals. They also have one of the best defenses in the NFL. This week, they get matched up with a Cardinals team that has been bad. The Cardinals have not been as bad as everyone predicted them to be, but they now have another new starting quarterback. Clayton Tune is going to get the opportunity to go up against that staunch Browns defense, which has given up just 1,143 passing yards this season and eight touchdowns. Next to five interceptions on the season, I think that that interception total can get above the touchdown total, based upon Tune. I would imagine that this will be a big Myles Garrett game, as I am not sure that there is anyone that I would rather not want to go up against in my first start.
On offense, the Browns have somewhat figured out their run game after Nick Chubb went down. Jerome Ford has been okay, but Kareem Hunt seems like he is somewhat back to what fans know him as. The Browns are currently eighth in the NFL in rushing yards this season, with 1,040 rushing yards. Partnering that with the Cardinals giving up the third-most yards on the ground this season, at 1,045, I think Cleveland runs early and often and whatever problems that they have going on at quarterback can be somewhat solved.
Look for Cleveland to get their run game going, as once again Arizona is starting a bad quarterback and has been horrible against the run.
Take the Cleveland Browns with your Week 9 NFL survivor pool picks.

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Tennessee Titans
I am not buying into the Will Levis hype after his performance last week. DeAndre Hopkins was able to get behind a below-average Atlanta Falcons secondary. While I am not doubting Hopkins’ ability to play the receiver position, I don’t know that the Steelers’ secondary will play as badly as the Falcons did. Levis also has to deal with T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith this week. The Titans’ offensive line has been bad this year and, with those two superstar pass rushers going against him, I think he could be in for a long week. That likely means that the Titans have to bring a tight end to the line on almost every offensive play of the game. This means fewer pass catchers for Levis on Thursday.
As for the Steelers on offense, the Titans’ secondary has been very bad against receivers this season. I believe that both Diontae Johnson and George Pickens can have big weeks on Thursday. Especially if there is any sort of run game going, which is certainly possible. The Titans have given up 752 yards on the ground this season, which makes me think that they have really keyed in on stopping the run this year. If Pickett can connect with his receivers early, the Titans will be forced to respect the pass, which can open up those running lanes for Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren.

Los Angeles Rams vs. Green Bay Packers
The Green Bay Packers have quickly become a team to pick against for NFL survivor pool picks. I think that rings true once again. If Matthew Stafford plays against Green Bay, I absolutely love the Rams here and would debate taking them in a survivor pool. With Brett Rypien though, I think they move down to the high-risk, high-reward section. In this game, the first team to 14 points probably wins this game. With Green Bay’s inability to score first-half points, I think the Rams have to get the edge here.
The X-Factor, of course, is going to be Cooper Kupp. With the departure of Rasul Douglas, I am not sure that Jaire Alexander will travel with Kupp, especially if he is lining up in the backfield or in the slot. I would imagine that Alexander’s focus relies more on Puka Nacua in this game. Green Bay has also struggled this year to stop deep crossers. I mean, look what K.J. Osborn did against them last week. Kupp will probably finish between 125 and 200 this week.
