If you are unaware of what NFL survivor picks are, the basic concept is you make NFL picks throughout the season, but you can only pick a team once. Once you lose, you’re knocked out, so choose your Week 8 NFL Survivor Pool picks wisely.
If you are new to reading my survivor articles, what I do is outline my “lock of the week,” my “value of the week” and my “high-risk, high-reward pick.”
The lock of the week details what team I think has the best chance of winning their matchup. This would most likely be a good team that plays a bad team. The lock is also the official pick for NFL Survivor Pools, meaning we will not reuse a “lock.” My value pick of the week details a mid-tier team that has a good matchup. And finally, my high-risk, high-reward pick details a bad team that has a good matchup.
Teams Used:
- San Francisco 49ers
- Cleveland Browns
- Cincinnati Bengals
- Los Angeles Chargers
- Jacksonville Jaguars
- Green Bay Packers
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Philadelphia Eagles vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
At some point this season, the Philadelphia Eagles have to lose a game. I do not expect that this week though, in the battle of Pennsylvania. In general, the Pittsburgh Steelers are not that good of a football team, while the Eagles look like the best in the NFL. In particular, Pittsburgh’s defense has not been playing up to snuff. They have been really hurt by injuries, and they currently rank 31st in scoring and give up about 4.8 yards per play. Doing that against an offense that is really gelling is going to be tough.
Philadelphia also sports one of the better defenses in the NFL. Darius Slay is back to his height of abilities and T.J. Edwards has been playing awesome. While yes, Pittsburgh does have weapons on the offensive side of the ball, the only problem is that Kenny Pickett is delivering them the ball. Pickett is not a bad player by any means, but how much do you trust a rookie against the best team in the NFL?

Dallas Cowboys vs. Chicago Bears
The Dallas Cowboys are a good football team, but I am not sure how much you can trust them. Really, nobody knows if Dak Prescott is going to be a star or a failure, but the answer probably lies somewhere in between. I feel comfortable using Dallas as my value pick for NFL Survivor Pool picks as opposed to the lock, because the Cowboys do play Houston in six weeks.
Before Chicago beat New England on Monday night, the Bears were averaging just 15.5 points per game during a three-game losing streak. So, was that win over New England just a fluke? Probably. That makes me love the Cowboys in this game. The Bears looked good on Monday night, something we are not too accustomed to seeing. And yes, it is nice to win a stand-alone game, but how good are the Patriots really? The Bears coming off of an emotional win and one day less of prep and rest screams a recipe for disaster.
One of Dallas’ strengths is their ability to rush the passer, something that the Bears struggle to block against. I would imagine that Prescott should be able to get into some kind of groove in this game, as the Cowboys probably don’t need to do much on offense to win this game.
If all else, Dallas just has more talent than Chicago, so take Dallas.

Washington Commanders vs. Indianapolis Colts
You might call me crazy for choosing all three of my picks from the same division. You might also call me crazy for picking Washington in this game. The simple fact is there are not a lot of games left that the Washington Commanders are an option for NFL Survivor Pools. Let’s say you used some very good teams right away and you need to just hang on another week. I think that you can do worse than Washington here. All of sudden, amid an injured quarterback and one of the worst owners in sports, fans are starting to back the Washington Commanders. Taylor Heinicke inspired hope, as the young quarterback has become a player that fans can rally around. And Washington is coming off of their biggest win this season, over Green Bay.
Washington undoubtably has one of the best defensive fronts in all of football. With a Colts offensive line that has been bad all year, Washington should feast on the inside. Matt Ryan is also out of the game, as Sam Ehlinger is set to make the start. The young Texas QB should be a worry for Washington fans, due to lack of experience alone. I think that Washington has a real opportunity to win the turnover battle and if they do that, I don’t know why they can’t win this game.
