If you are unaware of what NFL survivor picks are, the basic concept is you make NFL picks throughout the season, but you can only pick a team once. Once you lose, you’re knocked out, so choose your Week 6 NFL Survivor Pool picks wisely.

If you are new to reading my survivor articles, what I do is outline my “lock of the week,” my “value of the week” and my “high-risk, high-reward pick.”

The lock of the week details what team I think has the best chance of winning their matchup. This would most likely be a good team that plays a bad team. The lock is also the official pick for NFL Survivor Pools, meaning we will not reuse a “lock.” My value pick of the week details a mid-tier team that has a good matchup. And finally, my high-risk, high-reward pick details a bad team that has a good matchup. It may be worth it to look at the NFL betting odds for these games and place some bets as well.

Teams Used:

  1. Baltimore Ravens
  2. Buffalo Bills
  3. Jacksonville Jaguars
  4. Kansas City Chiefs
  5. Detroit Lions

Miami Dolphins vs. Carolina Panthers

I think right now the best strategy for your NFL survivor pool picks is to take whoever is playing the Carolina Panthers. They are by far the worst team in the NFL and, lucky for them, they get to take on one of the hottest teams in the NFL this week, the Miami Dolphins.

The Dolphins’ offense has been historic throughout five weeks, gaining the most yards through five weeks in NFL history. The Panthers are 28th in yards given up this year, which spells disaster for the team this week. With injuries to Derrick Brown, Brian Burns and Xavier Woods, the Dolphins should have no problem at all moving the ball on Sunday. Tyreek Hill is a game-changer and, with Jaylen Waddle healthy, Miami has the ability to pass all over Carolina. I would imagine that Miami will try and get their run game going in this game as well. With De’Von Achane out, Raheem Mostert, Salvon Ahmed and maybe Jeff Wilson have a great opportunity to get momentum and valuable reps. Along with the 28th-most yards given up, the Panthers have not given up less than 130 yards on the ground in any game. I am confident that Mostert’s fumbling issues subside and he can get back on track.

As for the defensive side of the ball, the Dolphins’ below-average defense has an opportunity to shore up a lot of issues. Bryce Young has shown much-expected growing pains and Miles Sanders and the run game has been near non-existent this year. Carolina needs to get the run game going to even think about winning, but the problem here is that Miami can put up points quickly (look at the Denver game). The Panthers are probably playing from behind the entire game, leading to an abandonment of the run game.

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Indianapolis Colts

The Indianapolis Colts have had to change their entire game plan this week, as Anthony Richardson has a shoulder injury. Now, starting Gardner Minshew, the Colts are losing the rushing threat at quarterback. While Minshew is not a bad quarterback by any means, the Jaguars have a strong opportunity to stack the box. Minshew will probably need to get the run game going in this match in order to stay in it and, if Jacksonville can limit it, I can see this game going sideways quickly.

I think that Jacksonville is kind of riding a high in this game though after defeating the Buffalo Bills in London last week. In that game, the Jaguars unleashed Travis Etienne, something that is possible again against the Colts. The Colts have given up 569 yards on the ground this year — something that I would expect to continue. Indianapolis has also given up 1,314 yards through the air this season, which plays perfectly into Trevor Lawrence’s game plan.

The Jaguars have the upper hand here on the coach, the quarterback and the team as a whole. I don’t love this pick as a value pick and am advising you to go with the Dolphins instead, but I do think Jacksonville wins this game and, as a result of an odd schedule, I think Jacksonville has to be the value pick.

Chicago Bears vs. Minnesota Vikings

Last week, the Minnesota Vikings lost one of the best players in football — Justin Jefferson. Jefferson’s departure is going to be huge for the Vikings, as they currently sit at 1-4. Taking away the best player on the team is not going to help them at all. With Jefferson out, where do the Vikings look for a change on offense? Kirk Cousins will be fine this week throwing the ball, but I am concerned about who is going to help him. Passes will be completed, but where does the ball go after that? Their players are just not talented enough to make an impact on this game. Alexander Mattison has not really gotten things going this year and I would not expect that to change this week.

For the Bears, Justin Fields has really turned the script over the last two weeks. He has thrown for eight touchdowns over the last two weeks and the coaching staff has really seemed to understand that if they can get Fields on the move, he can succeed. I don’t think it matters who is running the ball for the Bears in this game, as the Vikings have given up 1,200 total yards on the ground this year. I think Chicago’s best opportunity comes with Johnson, who also has shown at least some prowess in the passing game. Look for the Bears to try and get the run game going quickly and to let Fields loose when faced with long downs.
