If you are unaware of what NFL survivor picks are, the basic concept is you make NFL picks throughout the season, but you can only pick a team once. Once you lose, you’re knocked out, so choose your Week 16 NFL Survivor Pool picks wisely.

If you are new to reading my survivor articles, what I do is outline my “lock of the week,” my “value of the week” and my “high-risk, high-reward pick.”

The lock of the week details what team I think has the best chance of winning their matchup. This would most likely be a good team that plays a bad team. The lock is also the official pick for NFL Survivor Pools, meaning we will not reuse a “lock.” My value pick of the week details a mid-tier team that has a good matchup. And finally, my high-risk, high-reward pick details a bad team that has a good matchup.

Teams Used:

  1. San Francisco 49ers
  2. Cleveland Browns
  3. Cincinnati Bengals
  4. Los Angeles Chargers
  5. Jacksonville Jaguars
  6. Green Bay Packers
  7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
  8. Philadelphia Eagles
  9. Miami Dolphins
  10. Dallas Cowboys
  11. Baltimore Ravens
  12. N/A
  13. Seattle Seahawks
  14. Tennessee Titans
  15. Kansas City Chiefs

Lock of the Week | Best Pick for NFL Survivor Pool Week 16

Buffalo Bills vs. Chicago Bears

This is a matchup of one of the better teams in the NFL against one of the worst teams. While people do like to call a game like this a “trap game,” I don’t think that is the case here. Right now, it seems like the only way that the Bears can move the ball on offense is with Justin Fields’ legs. The good news for the Buffalo Bills in that regard is Matt Milano has been one of the better tacklers in the NFL. What separates these teams may be that offensive disparity. The Buffalo Bills rank second in points and ninth in yards. On the Bears’ defensive side of the ball, Chicago has been okay against the pass but gave up 309 yards to Jalen Hurts.

Detroit Lions vs. Carolina Panthers

The Detroit Lions are rolling right now, as they have won six out of their last seven games. I expect that hot streak to continue, as the Lions take on the Carolina Panthers this week. To be fair, Carolina has had quite the up-and-down season and in are in a spot to sneak into the playoffs. The only problem for them is that the Lions are in a spot to steal a playoff spot as well.

In order to win this game, it seems like Detroit should get its run game going. The Panthers give up 130.7 yards per game on the ground. We know that Detroit wants to get that run game going early and that starts with Jamaal Williams. He has been awesome this year, but as Detroit has been stifled in the run game through the last couple of games, Williams has not really produced much. Once Williams gets going, D’Andre Swift can get going, leading to Jared Goff working in the pass game.

Yes, even though both of these teams have playoff aspirations, I believe that Dan Campbell has a better team and should take down the Panthers.

Cleveland Browns vs. New Orleans Saints

It should be horrible weather in this game, and to me, that means a lot of Nick Chubb running the football. To me, Chubb is the best rusher in the NFL and should be able to take advantage of a below-average Saints rushing defense. The Saints give up 132.6 yards per game on the ground in 2022. If the weather is so bad this week, I am wondering if Deshaun Watson uses his rushing ability in this game too.

I don’t believe that the New Orleans Saints will have much success on offense. This could be a Taysom Hill game, but I think that if I were the Browns, I want Taysom Hill to be running the offense this week. Game planning against the Saints with Hill should be easy, as he does not offer much in the passing department and should be able to stack the box against. I love Cleveland’s running attack in this game and think that they should not have too big of a problem moving the ball.
