If you are unaware of what NFL survivor picks are, the basic concept is you make NFL picks throughout the season, but you can only pick a team once. Once you lose, you’re knocked out, so choose your Week 13 NFL Survivor Pool picks wisely.

If you are new to reading my survivor articles, what I do is outline my “lock of the week,” my “value of the week” and my “high-risk, high-reward pick.”

The lock of the week details what team I think has the best chance of winning their matchup. This would most likely be a good team that plays a bad team. The lock is also the official pick for NFL Survivor Pools, meaning we will not reuse a “lock.” My value pick of the week details a mid-tier team that has a good matchup. And finally, my high-risk, high-reward pick details a bad team that has a good matchup.

Teams Used:

  1. San Francisco 49ers
  2. Cleveland Browns
  3. Cincinnati Bengals
  4. Los Angeles Chargers
  5. Jacksonville Jaguars
  6. Green Bay Packers
  7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
  8. Philadelphia Eagles
  9. Miami Dolphins
  10. Dallas Cowboys
  11. Baltimore Ravens
  12. N/A

Lock of the Week | Best Pick for NFL Survivor Pool Week 13

Seattle Seahawks vs. Los Angeles Rams

The Los Angeles Rams are a dumpster fire right now. With Matt Stafford listed as doubtful, it is either going to be Bryce Perkins or John Wolford behind center for the Rams this week. To make matters worse, the Rams are going to be without Cooper Kupp, who is on injured reserve, and could be without Aaron Donald. That is all not mentioning Allen Robinson, who is out for the rest of the year. The Rams have not won a game since October and the Seahawks are in the midst of a tight division race. It seems likely that Seattle has a little bit more to play for, which spells good news for anyone who is taking them this week.

Talent alone should be able to push Seattle over the edge here to a victory. While the Rams’ defense isn’t horrible, it is giving up the sixth most points in the NFL. That plays perfectly into Seattle’s fourth-ranked offense. Jalen Ramsey should have his hands busy with either D.K. Metcalf or Tyler Lockett, while Bobby Wagner will probably be assigned to Ken Walker. That leaves one of the receivers looking at number two coverage, which should work perfect for Geno Smith.

Cleveland Browns vs. Houston Texans

I have no idea what is going to happen with the Cleveland Browns’ offense this week, as Deshaun Watson returns to the league. I don’t know what Amari Cooper is going to produce or what David Njoku is going to produce. Heck, Donovan Peoples-Jones may have the best game of his career… I don’t know.

What I do know, though, is the Houston Texans are dead last against the run this year, in terms of yards given up. I also know that Nick Chubb is arguably the best running back in the NFL. It seems like those two points will work hand-in-hand for a productive ground day from Cleveland.

On the offensive side of the ball for the Texans, they are not very good. It makes no sense why Kyle Allen is playing for the Texans, but I do believe that he is worse than Davis Mills. The receiving corps doesn’t scream anything too exciting for the Texans, and Dameon Pierce is only going to do so much in this game. Similar to my lock of the week, the Browns just have more talent than the Texans. And don’t look now, but the Browns are three games out of first place in the division and have to play the Texans, Saints and Steelers yet.

Detroit Lions vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

Here is my pick for the “sneaky-fun” game of the week. The Detroit Lions’ defense started as one of the worst defenses of all time. While I am not saying that they are the 2013 Seahawks or 2000 Ravens, they are a little better now than earlier in the year. That all starts on the defensive line. In the three games since Detroit’s win against Green Bay, they have recorded eight sacks, with three of them coming against Josh Allen and the Bills. In a pass-happy attack like Jacksonville, it only makes sense that Detroit will get more opportunities to add to that sack total.

Both of these teams look like they are on the right track as they continue their long-long-long rebuild, but I think the Lions may be just slightly ahead. Dan Campbell wants his team to play physical, hard-nosed football, which is what Detroit has been doing the last four or so games. Jamaal Williams is a top-12 running back in the NFL and I don’t think Jacksonville has anything on defense that scares me. We know that Trevor Lawrence will sling the ball around and, if the pass rush can get there, I would imagine Lawrence throws an interception or two.
