Football is back, which means NFL DFS is back! Let’s start the season off right and take down a GPP this Sunday. To do so, we will need to navigate this tricky lineup construction. Luckily, NFL Week 1 offers us a lot of value plays on DraftKings.
Let’s reach into the NFL DFS bargain bin to find the best cheap plays of the DraftKings main slate for Week 1. Nailing these cheap players allows us to spend up for the reliable players.
Let’s establish the parameters for what is a “bargain” play on DraftKings for this week and going forward. Quarterbacks must be under $6,000, while running backs, wide receivers and tight ends need to be under $5,000.
Tyrod Taylor continues to be a solid quarterback everywhere he is given a chance. In Week 1, he plays a weak Cincinnati defense that is missing both Geno Atkins and Shawn Williams. He should be able to rack up plenty of yards, both through the air and on the ground.
While Mitchell Trubisky is not a great quarterback, he has Detroit’s number. Over five matchups with the Lions, he has averaged 271.8 passing yards, 2.2 passing touchdowns and 0.8 interceptions. He has added another 86 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
The Patriots’ running backs are always risky, but this should be a run-heavy game. Damien Harris, a training camp standout, is inactive, which gives us at least a little more clarity in this backfield. This feels like a game where Sony Michel could find the end zone multiple times, where the Patriots try to take the pressure off of Cam Newton in his first game.
The rookie receiving back for Washington has been hyped up all offseason. While he is listed as the team’s No. 2 back, he without a doubt is the most talented in the backfield. It’s risky, as any of these minimum-priced Washington backs could get touches, but given the string defensive front of Philly, Antonio Gibson is likely to be involved as a receiver.
Priced at minimum, James Robinson is expected to be the lead back for the Jaguars. On top of that, the team has talked him up as an every down player. If this is true, the volume is enough to give him a look, given the price.

We saw DeSean Jackson blow up in Week 1 against Washington last season, putting his connection with Carson Wentz on display. He has one of the top individual matchups of the slate, and he is in the perfect situation for this to happen yet again, with Alshon Jeffery out and Jalen Reagor not 100 percent.
N’Keal Harry and Cam Newton were said to have a connection right away, then we stopped hearing anything about it. I assume this by design. The Patriots also released Mohamed Sanu. They wouldn’t make this move if they didn’t feel good about Harry.
Parris Campbell’s 2019 season was hindered by injuries, but he is good to go in Week 1. Philip Rivers needs someone to target in the middle of the field, and Campbell is a candidate for this role against the Jaguars.
Rob Gronkowski has the top individual matchup of any tight end, per Pro Football Focus. With Mike Evans either out or limited, it takes away a big receiving weapon for Tom Brady, especially in the red zone. In a new offense with high stakes, there should be moments where we see Brady default to Gronk, a player he trusts and is familiar with.
The Colts offense is going to feature the tight end position. With Trey Burton out, Jack Doyle should face little competition for snaps. Philip Rivers has also made a career of throwing touchdowns to tight ends.
