Michigan State vs Ole Miss Prediction | Sweet 16 Expert Picks
Is it 2000? This Michigan State basketball team is one of the better Tom Izzo-coached teams since Sparty won the championship. With a strong defense supported by athletic guards and wings, Michigan State certainly looks the part of making a run back to the Final Four. In order to keep the dream alive, they will have to get through Ole Miss who is playing as well as anyone in the sport right now.
Ole Miss has really shown their prowess to shoot the basketball, making 19 three-point shots so far in the NCAA Tournament. The offense has a whole has run through Sean Pedulla, who is the ultimate “I want him on my team, but would hate playing against him.” With supporting wings and bigs like Dre Davis and Malik Dia, Ole Miss is a scary matchup. Throughout the tournament, the Rebels have really run through without much of a problem. They did allow a major comeback in the first round matchup against North Carolina, but when it came down to it, they were in control for the entire game. As is the case with anyone playing good ball, it will come down to making shots. With what we have seen from the Rebels, it will give Michigan State a run.
There is an argument that Michigan State is the best overall team that still remaining. On top of that, they employ the best coach remaining in the tournament. With the combo of those two factors, Sparty has not had too much of a problem in the first two rounds. In their first two games, Michigan State has given up just 125 points. KenPom’s fifth-ranked defense has been the driving force all season long. On the offensive end of the ball, it has been the guard play from Jaden Akins and Tre Holloman that has been the points of production. The best offensive player on the team, Jace Richardson, has not enjoyed his best two-game stretch of the season, totaling just 21 points through two games. While 21 points is nothing to be mad at, someone of Richardson’s caliber probably should see more. Even though Richardson has not been at his best, Michigan State has been able to somewhat breeze through the first two rounds, proving how deep and tough they actually are.
While Ole Miss has looked as good as anyone in the tournament, Iowa State’s and North Carolina’s defenses are nowhere near the caliber of Michigan State’s.
For our Michigan State vs Ole Miss prediction, we are picking the Michigan State Spartans to win and move on in the NCAA Tournament.
