Maryland vs Colorado State Prediction | March Madness Expert Picks
In their first-round game against Grand Canyon, Maryland looked like a team that could truly contend for a Final Four berth. The Terrapins shot 50% from the field and 43% from three-point range. Even though they shot just 12/24 from the free throw line, they still racked up 81 points and dominated Grand Canyon for the entire game, winning 81-49.
The most interesting part of the game was Maryland’s lack of bench usage even in a blowout. Only two players played more than 10 minutes off the bench while three starters played over 32 minutes. Unfortunately, with this kind of workload for the starters, the question becomes when, not if, the Terrapins flame out. Maryland did nothing to dispel their obvious bench issues.
For Colorado State, they did everything they needed to against Memphis in round one on their way to a 78-70 upset win. While the injury to Tyrese Hunter and his lack of availability in this game certainly helped, the Rams still deserved to win this game. They played solid defense and did a good job on closing down on Memphis’ looks from deep. The Rams hit their shots and their free throws and won the all-important turnover battle.
Simply put, Maryland is the better team. The Rams will have a much tougher task limiting Maryland’s offense and will need to lock the Terrapins down in the paint as well. Unfortunately, Maryland has too much height and talent and should be able to own the paint. While they won’t blow out Colorado State, it’ll be a slow death for the Rams unless their shooting suddenly gets red hot.
For our Maryland vs Colorado State prediction, we are picking the Maryland Terrapins to win and move on in the NCAA Tournament.
