MAC Basketball Tournament Bracket, Standings, Schedule and Breakdown

The 2022 Mid-American Conference (MAC) Tournament is set to get underway Thursday, March 10th. Last year’s MAC Basketball Tournament saw Ohio secure their seventh conference tournament championship, with an 84-69 blowout win over Buffalo. With none of the teams near the bubble, the automatic bid for the champion will be as crucial as ever. Toledo will look to defend their regular season title while Ohio and Ball State look to secure their MAC-leading eighth tournament championship.

The following contains the MAC Tournament bracket, standings and schedule, as well as a preview of what we can expect to see.

MAC Basketball Breakdown

This year, the MAC will hope to see more of the same craziness that made the conference tournament so fun last season. In the 2021 MAC Tournament fifth-seeded Ohio went through three of the top four seeds to win the tournament. With no byes for any teams, everyone is on a level playing field. Toledo will look to defend their regular season crown and win their first conference tournament since 1980. Ohio will look to repeat and claim their eighth tournament championship.

Of the eight total teams in the MAC Tournament, only Toldeo finished the regular season with a top-100 ranking in the College Basketball Net. Toledo enters the MAC Tournament with a No. 65 overall net ranking. Only Ohio and Buffalo even crack the top-125 ranking in the College Basketball Net at No. 111 and No. 116 respectively.

The MAC basketball preseason poll didn’t do a good job predicting the outcome of the conference. Buffalo received 11 of 12 first-place votes to win the conference and ended up finishing fifth. Toledo was slated to finish third and ended up being overachievers as they won the regular season title. Western Michigan was a big underachiever as they were predicted to finish ninth but ended up in 12th.
