The Lions faced a healthier 49ers team in Week 1, and it wasn’t pretty. After a 38-10 hole, the Niners called off the dogs, which allowed Detroit to make the final score look respectable and pad the stats a bit. However, the Lions did lost arguably their best defensive player for the season, in Jeff Okudah. It makes a terrible unit worse, and it’s at a very poor time, with a matchup against Davante Adams tonight.
While the Lions looked bad, the Packers looked worse against the Saints. It played out similarly to what was said on Lombardi Sweep. The Saints were able to get pressure with a three-man rush, due to the interior offensive line being one of the worst trios in the NFL. This allowed them to drop defenders and effectively stop the pass as well as the run. Defensively, Joe Barry’s scheme relies solely on getting pressure up front. They weren’t able to do so, which led to open looks for Jameis Winston. Tonight will not be able to tell Packer fans anything good about their team, since they are playing a terrible opponent, but it could say some bad things if they struggle again.
