“Act like you’ve been there before” is a great saying to follow in life, and especially sports. While the Detroit Lions haven’t really been in this situation, where they are hosting a game in the NFL Playoffs, they should at least pretend they fit in with the other top-seeded teams during NFL Wild Card Weekend. Instead, they have made a wild move ahead of former Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford returning to Ford Field.

Matthew Stafford was traded from Detroit to the Los Angeles Rams a couple of years ago. This marked the end of a largely unsuccessful era in Detroit, while Stafford immediately won a Super Bowl with the Rams. Clearly, the move marked a string of other successful moves for Detroit as well, as the Lions have continued to improve under the leadership and coaching of Dan Campbell.

However, are the “same old Lions” back after the announcement that the team is banning Matthew Stafford jerseys from Ford Field for the Rams vs Lions matchup?

Detroit Lions Ban Matthew Stafford Jerseys From Ford Field

Hey Lions fans, don’t bite off more than you can chew. Matthew Stafford was one of the only good things about your franchise for over a decade. The other? Calvin Johnson, of course, and your front office decided to hang onto his paycheck after he retired from your losing franchise.

Now, after Stafford was traded, you want to insult him and add fuel to the fire in his return to Ford Field. No, you shouldn’t be cheering or rooting for him during the game. You should be cheering as loud as you can for Jared Goff to have a clean pocket, since he will lose you the game if Aaron Donald gets anywhere near him. However, to go out of the way to insult one of your all-time greats is weird behavior.

Kelly Stafford Reponds to Jersey Ban

Has Matthew Stafford heard about this jersey ban by the Detroit Lions fans? Yup, and his wife Kelly Stafford has responded. Kelly was quoted: “Well this is sad because it’s the completely opposite of how we feel about this city, but Matthew has always been the bigger person and will continue to be that. Praying for an incredible game with zero injuries.”

For the Lions fans’ sake, I hope Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams don’t have the ball in the fourth quarter with time to win it. Stafford has dreamed of a playoff game in Ford Field, and it is looking like he has a great opportunity to win one. If you are looking to buy a Matthew Stafford jersey, you can get one here.
