Leo Chenal Draft Profile

Strengths

Leo Chenal has freakish explosive ability at his size. As a phenomenal run-stopping specialist, Chenal received the third-highest grade ever given to an off-ball linebacker by PFF and stopped the run at the second-highest rate in the nation last season. He also has raw talent as a blitzer, which just needs to be groomed and honed in. Because of his size and strength, offensive linemen often have a hard time containing the brute downhill force he brings, and they tend to lose in a collision at the line. This is shown by the fact Chenal tripled his career TFL in 2021. He also has shifty feet and can hold his own in space, with just 23 career missed tackles.

Weaknesses

While Chenal possesses generational talent stopping the run, much is left to be desired when he is asked to play in coverage. He has the ability, doing so on 226 plays in 2021, but his instincts and effectiveness are limited. In 468 career coverage snaps, he has just one interception and allowed a completion rate of over 90% (19/21) in 2021.
