Jonah Coleman NFL Draft Profile: Scouting Report, Stats, Highlights

A look at the Jonah Coleman NFL Draft profile, including a scouting report, his college highlights and stats, and a draft projection.

In the current era of the NFL, teams have shown that the running back position is of little value on the open market. Teams are no longer willing to shell out the big bucks for free agents when they can get extremely talented running backs in the NFL Draft for much cheaper at a much younger age. One player who will certainly be a sought-after prospect to help out someone’s backfield is Jonah Coleman of the Washington Huskies. Although it remains to be seen when he’ll be drafted, there is no doubt that he’ll hear his name called in the first few rounds, so it’s about time to get to know him and how he plays.

When is the 2026 NFL Draft?

The 2026 NFL Draft kicks off on Thursday, April 23, beginning at 8 p.m. ET. The draft will take place in Pittsburgh, PA. It is a football city that will provide a great backdrop for the draft festivities, but everyone is crossing their fingers that the weather cooperates. Only Round 1 will take place on Thursday. Rounds 2-3 will take place on April 24th, with the remaining four rounds wrapping up on Sunday, April 25th. There will be 257 players selected across the seven rounds, with many more getting phone calls immediately afterward.

Jonah Coleman Scouting Report

Strengths

The biggest strength of Jonah Coleman is ball security. Across four seasons at Arizona and Washington, Coleman has fumbled the ball just three times, losing the fumble just twice. While everybody loves the Mack truck running backs like Derrick Henry or speed demons like De’Von Achane, ball security is still the most important thing for a running back to have. He does a good job wrapping the ball up when he knows he’s about to be hit and never carries it loose.

On top of protecting the football, Coleman does a solid job protecting his quarterback as well. He is more than a willing blocker and understands what his assignment is in blocking situations as well. In addition, he does a good job of being slippery in the open field and wiggling free of tackles. Coleman also understands when to follow his blockers and does a good job setting up his linemen for blocks as well. He’s a good locker room guy, and he was a team captain.

Weaknesses

For as well as Coleman does the little things on a football field, he doesn’t play the way he needs to for him to be productive at the next level. For starters, he doesn’t have the speed or quick burst that NFL-caliber running backs have. On top of that, he has a bad habit of slowing his feet or being slow to commit to a running lane. As a result, there are more than enough times when a small running lane closes before he has the chance or makes the decision to run through it.

With the lack of top-end speed and as more of a tackle eluder than a tackle breaker, it remains to be seen if his skill set will be able to translate to a faster and more physical level of competition in the NFL.
