Joe Mixon Injury Update Could Mean Terrible Things For Texans

Heading into the Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs, the Houston Texans face their toughest test of the season. They are tasked with being the team to stop the Kansas City Chiefs, putting an end to their hopes of a three-peat. This is tough enough, but with the recent Joe Mixon injury update, it could be near impossible.

Despite winning the division, it was a relatively disappointing regular season for the Houston Texans. Injuries, suspensions, and overall worse football have led to the team losing more games than expected. It also led to many believing Houston would have an early exit from the NFL Playoffs.

This wasn’t the case, however. The Texans won at home during Wild Card Weekend, defeating the Los Angeles Chargers, 32-12. It was a dominating performance by the entire team, but now the Joe Mixon injury update has many wondering if the Texans’ offense can put together a strong enough performance to win on Saturday.

Joe Mixon Injury Update: Misses Practice Thursday

In the final practice of the week prior to Saturday’s Divisional Round game against the Kansas City Chiefs, Joe Mixon was unable to participate. This puts his status for the game very much in the air, with the Houston Texans listing him as questionable to play.

Mixon was a late add to the injury report this week with an ankle injury. It is never good news to see a player added midweek to the injury report as it typically means this is not an injury suffered in last week’s game, and it is also serious enough to report.

It would be very bad news if Mixon was not able to play. Totaling 106 rushing yards last game, Joe Mixon proved how valuable he is to this offense. Last season, the Texans were terrible at running the football, averaging 3.7 yards per carry. This was the fourth-lowest average in the league. Despite the offensive line continuing to play poorly, the Texans average 4.4 yards per carry this season, and that is because of Mixon.

If Mixon is unable to go, the Houston Texans will use a duo of Dameon Pierce and Dare Ogunbowale in the backfield.

Houston Texans Injury Report vs Chiefs

Aside from Joe Mixon, veteran wide receiver Robert Woods was also unable to practice on Thursday due to a hip injury. But unlike Mixon, Woods has been unable to practice in any capacity this week. His status for the Divisional Round is in serious doubt.

Inside linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair is also dealing with a bit of a knee injury. However, after logging multiple limited practices, it would be surprising if the Houston leader on defense was not out there for such an important game.
