New York Jets Preview

The Jets enter this NFL betting matchup off a bye, the result of their traveling overseas to play in London two weeks ago. New York failed to follow up their first win of the season in that London game. The defense had no answers for Matt Ryan, Kyle Pitts and the Atlanta Falcons as the Jets dropped to 1-4 on the season. Despite that ugly performance across the pond, Robert Saleh’s defense has actually been better than expected thus far. The secondary is young, but the Jets do have talent at all three levels. Brothers Quinnen and Quincy Williams have come up huge thus far. While linebacker C.J. Mosley is listed as doubtful for Sunday’s contest, the Jets will get safety Marcus Maye back from injury.

Offensively, the growing pains continued for rookie quarterback Zach Wilson in England. He finished with under 200 yards passing and threw another interception, bringing his total to nine through his first five NFL starts. Now, he must face the same Patriots defense that picked him off four times back in Week 2. Wilson will have slot receiver Jamison Crowder this time around after he missed the first head-to-head between these rivals with an injury. Whether or not he can make a significant difference is another story.

New England Patriots Preview

For the first time in Bill Belichick’s tenure as head coach, the Patriots have lost each of their first four home games. There were many sharp NFL betting analysts who liked New England as an upset pick to win the AFC East Division coming into the year. While the Pats are now 2-4, one could make a legitimate argument that this team is better than their win-loss record suggests. New England was driving to win their season-opener before a fumble in the red zone sealed their fate. They went toe-to-toe with the defending Super Bowl champs in Week 4, coming up one missed field goal short. Even last week as underdogs against the Dallas Cowboys, the Patriots came up with timely plays and ultimately fell in an overtime thriller.

After a lost 2020 campaign as a result of several opt-outs, New England is once again a top-tier defense when it comes to adjusted metrics this season. Matthew Judon has been playing out of his mind while safety Kyle Dugger came up with his first career interception last week. The fact that the Patriots have been so competitive while starting a rookie quarterback is a major nod to their defense. Speaking of said rookie QB, Mac Jones continues to make progress. It helps to have a budding star lining up behind him in the backfield. After being questionable with an injury all of last week, Damien Harris piled up over 100 yards rushing and a score against Dallas.
