Jermod McCoy Scouting Report
Strengths
Jermod McCoy is an incredibly athletic cornerback who is a former track athlete in the triple and long jump. He does a great job in both man and zone coverages and does a good job breaking on the ball. For those who like results in the stat sheet, McCoy is your guy, as he recorded six interceptions over just 25 games in his first two college seasons. McCoy does a good job of changing direction and has good instincts as well. He is also patient in coverage and waits for receivers to make the first move in coverage.
Weaknesses
One of the biggest issues for McCoy is obviously not his fault, in that he is coming off an ACL tear. He has not seen any game time since then, obviously, so it remains to be seen if the injury brings complications to his athleticism. In terms of his play, he is not as physical as he needs to be. McCoy is more of a dragging tackler than a hard hitter and needs to be more physical when the 50/50 ball comes his way. When playing zone, he sometimes struggles when it comes to when to clamp on and when to release on receivers in soft spots between zones as well.
