The fantasy football playoffs are among us, so every move matters more than ever. Unfortunately, injuries and COVID news is going to complicate things for many of us this week. One of the biggest examples will be the Antonio Gibson injury. Following the talented rookie getting ruled out for Sunday’s game, JD McKissic fantasy owners could be sitting on a player to move their team to the next round.
Antonio Gibson Injury Updated
Heading into Week 13, Gibson’s fantasy value was higher than ever, since he was coming off of a 115-yard, three-touchdown performance on Thanksgiving. However, Gibson recorded just two carries against the Steelers last week, leaving the game injured.
Gibson’s injury was labeled a turf toe injury, which his coach called “concerning.” We now know that he will miss the important Week 14 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers. This is a big blow to a Washington team that is fighting for the top spot in the division.

The biggest winner of the injury to Gibson has to be McKissic, who will now take all of the passing down duties for Washington. Not only is McKissic a tremendous receiver out of the backfield, he is also a good change of pace from Peyton Barber, and he is also much more elusive. Facing a physical defense like the 49ers, the quickness and elusiveness may be more needed than a bruiser.
Last week, McKissic took five carries eight yards in that tough matchup. However, he caught all 10 of his targets for 70 yards. In a PPR league, McKissic should be valued as a flex play with RB2 upside.
Meanwhile, Barber also has value and should be considered the more likely candidate to score a touchdown. If Washington gets into the red zone, it appears either Barber or Logan Thomas will be the ones to score. Barber should be treated as a touchdown-dependent flex play.
