No sport has a longer offseason than football. That being said, the biggest event of the NFL offseason is just around the corner. The 2021 NFL Draft is scheduled to take place from April 29th-May 1st in Cleveland, Ohio. Among those players projected to go in the first round is defensive back Jaycee Horn out of South Carolina.

    Jaycee Horn Draft Profile

    Strengths

At 6’1″ and 205 lbs, Jaycee Horn brings ideal size to the table. He combines it with physicality befitting of a day-one NFL starting corner. There are NFL bloodlines here as he is the son of Joe Horn, a four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver. One undeniable aspect of Horn’s three-year collegiate career at South Carolina was his consistent progression and growth as a player. His size and length enable him to be very disruptive in passing lanes. After playing in the slot as a freshman, Horn switched outside ahead of his sophomore season. He remained there as a junior and projects as a lock-down cover corner at the NFL level. Most of South Carolina’s 2020 opponents in the SEC elected to avoid throwing at Horn. Needless to say, it’s hard to blame them.

    Weaknesses

While his size and physicality make Horn well-equipped to play press coverage, there are concerns about his off-coverage abilities. The other major area Horn could stand to improve is his tackling. For the big-bodied DB that he is, Horn fails to live up to that size when it comes to making tackles. Flat out misses are a regular sight on film. Too much guessing when mirroring routes also leaves him vulnerable to making critical missteps.
