Jalen Duren Draft Profile
Strengths
It’s not often that a player comes along at 18 years of age with the physical size to compete in the NBA. Jalen Duren has the body of a man who has been in the league for a few years and has quite a knack for high-flying plays whether it’s throwing down a lob or swatting a shot a few rows into the crowd. Duren’s best trait is his ability to grab any and all offensive rebounds that are in his vicinity. He looked good defensively in spurts against Gonzaga in the NCAA Tournament and has shown the ability to guard almost anyone in the low post.
Weaknesses
Duren can be a good player in the NBA, but he has a lot of maturing to do. While that’s not surprising for an 18-year-old, he’s certainly more of a project than some of the other players near the top of the board. He had a tendency all season to commit silly fouls which ended up in him having to sit for long periods of time. Duren also commits silly turnovers too often when he tries to play too fast. While he did look incredibly dominant at times in college, it’s also important to remember he played in the AAC conference that is very thin in terms of capable big men. The NBA will be a huge jump and one that may prove difficult for him.
