With the first overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars draft Travon Walker, an edge rusher out of Georgia. After winning a national title to cap off his collegiate career, Walker is now set to bring his strength, power and athleticism to the NFL. He is a terrific run-stopper and has all of the tools to develop into a lethal pass-rusher as well. Let’s take a closer look at Walker.

Strengths

Travon Walker is a big, strong run stopper that consistently takes control at the point of attack. He is about as aggressive as it gets on the line and will make opposing linemen pay for underestimating his ability to break through. Walker displays excellent power, length and footwork that will certainly lead to his name being called in the first round. He also possesses rare athleticism and explosive get-off.

Weaknesses

While Walker is less skilled rushing the passer, mostly using his athleticism to win in college, which won’t be as successful in the NFL. He has the pure power and aggressiveness to burst his way through the line and potentially sack the opposing quarterback, but it is very possible he will be taken out on passing downs early in his career. Still, with the athleticism he possesses, he has the potential to become a skilled every-down player.

What to Expect From Travon Walker in 2022

Even after the height of NFL free agency, the Jaguars still possessed a glaring need along the defensive front. Travon Walker was drafted No. 1 overall to come in and contribute right away. Although growth and development will be needed for him to blossom as a pass-rusher, he will immediately provide a boost to Jacksonville’s run defense. Walker has all of the physical tools to blossom into an every-down impact player.
