Isaac Okoro College Highlights

Strengths

Isaac Okoro is a natural athlete whose work ethic propelled him into being a top prospect in the 2020 NBA Draft. He is a strong slasher and finisher, on top of being great in transition. His game will translate well to a fast-paced team.

Okoro’s biggest strength has to be his defensive abilities. It would be foolish to try to break down Okoro’s defensive game when Auburn coach Bruce Pearl is already on record touting his player:

“He is the best defensive guard I think I’ve ever coached. He can guard 1-5. I’ve never had a player be able to do that. Big, strong, physical and wants to defend. He wants the opponent’s best player. And offensively, he’s just very productive.”

Weaknesses

While Okoro can finish at the rim, he needs to improve his all-around jump shot. He shot a below average 28.6 percent from three-point range this season, which will need to be improved to have consistent success in the NBA. What is worse than his shot is his hesitancy to shoot the open shot. This creates poor situations for himself and his teammates, which can often result in turnovers. Okoro also needs to improve his free throw percentage, which was just 67.2 percent last season.

NBA Draft 2020 Prediction

San Antonio Spurs (No. 11)

A strong, versatile defender? That sounds right up the Spurs’ alley. With Demar DeRozan likely to enter free agency or be traded and Rudy Gay not getting any younger, Okoro can be the wing of the future for the Spurs. Okoro’s defensive versatility is something San Antonio has not had since Kawhi Leonard. With this addition, they can focus the rest of their offseason efforts on adding offense to round out the lineup.
