According to one study, more than 33 million Americans bet on the NFL, but there are many more sports to bet on!

If you’re interested in getting into sports betting, you may want to look into a sports betting handicap.

But what is it? And how can it help you? Keep reading to find out!

What is Handicap Betting?

A handicap betting is one of the easiest ways for bookies to make the playing ground more even. The actual definition of a handicap is: “a circumstance that makes progress or success more difficult.”

To give the handicap, the Bookie will select one bet in an event. They will handicap that event which makes it harder to win. This normally happens in one game where one team has a huge advantage over the other one.

To make the playing field better, he’ll provide odds rather than just having a win/draw/lose. He’ll also put a handicap bet on the team that meets the criteria for the handicap.

How it Works

So how does that work? Let’s look at football, which has the most popular handicap in the sporting contest.

Ante-post outright handicaps are normally available before the start of the season. They’re only offered at the beginning of the season because it relies on the team being able to win the league before they can even score any points.

For example, say you had a team that didn’t have any handicap, but you had another team that had a 57-point lead. If you bet on the handicap team, you’re betting that they will actually score those points during the duration of the season.

What Other Sports Can You Use it For?

While football may offer the best bets today, you can use handicaps in many other sports.

For example, rugby handicaps give one of the highest point scorings. That’s normally because, in rugby, the points will be higher than your average football game.

You can also participate in handicap betting in golf as well. This will let you put a handicap on the golfer’s rounds, like placing a bet over three swings.

Tennis is another popular one, and you can bet on either games or sets. If you’re betting a handicap on the game, then the games from that match will total up to be the outcome. However, that doesn’t always have to be the player who won that match.
