Charles Oliveira vs Dustin Poirier Preview

There is a reason why this is the main event for the final UFC PPV of the year. Charles Oliveira and Dustin Poirier are two of the most well-rounded fighters in the division, and this fight could truly go either way.

This will be Oliveira’s first title defense. The Brazilian is a submission specialist, submitting his opponents in 61% of his wins. However, he has proven he can finish the job as a striker as well, with three of his past five fights ending in knockouts. Oliveira has certainly proven he deserves to be the champ, winning nine straight fights to get there.

To beat the champ, you have to knock him out, and that is exactly was Dustin Poirier can do. Of his 28 wins, 15 have come from knockout. Half of Oliveira’s losses have come from knockout, and Michael Chandler connected on a few nice strikes in that title fight. Once Poirier connects on a few strikes, he typically gets in a rhythm and lets his hands fly.

His ability to flip that switch, combined with Oliveira’s submission skills, make this such an exciting fight. It could end at any moment, and both fighters have the ability to finish the fight out of nowhere.
