The Format: A Championship with a Twist
The PASS 400 is unlike any other race on the schedule. Divided into three segments, it offers multiple chances for drivers to earn big money and valuable championship points:
-
Segment 1: 100 laps
-
Segment 2: 100 laps
-
Segment 3: 200 laps
Each segment pays $25,000 to win, meaning every race is a standalone battle for cash and glory. Drivers are scored based on finishing positions — one point for first, two points for second, and so on.
After each 100-lap segment, the top 25 finishers are inverted to form the starting lineup for the next segment, adding a strategic twist. The driver with the lowest combined score across all three segments will earn another $25,000 bonus, making it possible for one competitor to collect a total of $100,000 if they sweep all three segments and the overall championship.
Full Weekend of Racing
The PASS 400 Weekend is a three-day motorsport festival featuring multiple classes and marquee races:
-
Friday, October 17: The rescheduled PASS Kennebec Equipment Rental 150, counting as a PASS North championship race and a warm-up for Sunday’s main event.
-
Saturday, October 18: The Milton CAT American-Canadian Tour Pine Tree State 125, featuring some of the region’s top Late Model drivers, plus PASS qualifying rounds to set the field for Sunday’s opener.
-
Sunday, October 19: The grand finale – the PASS 400, along with PASS Modifieds, Thunder Stocks, and Street Stocks competing in their own feature races.
Fans can expect nearly 40 Super Late Models on track, each vying for a slice of one of the richest short-track purses in New England racing.
The Drivers to Watch
The pre-entry list for the PASS 400 reads like a who’s who of short-track racing. Veteran champions, rising stars, and local heroes will all be in the mix. Among the standouts:
-
Johnny Clark (Hallowell, ME) – Multi-time PASS champion and perennial contender.
-
D.J. Shaw (Center Conway, NH) – One of the most consistent drivers on the PASS North tour.
-
Ben Rowe (Turner, ME) – A New England legend chasing another marquee victory.
-
Derek Griffith (Litchfield, NH) – Known for speed and aggression in big-money races.
-
Garrett Hall (Scarborough, ME) – A local favorite with multiple PASS wins.
-
Joey Doiron (Berwick, ME) – Former Oxford champion, always fast on the long runs.
-
Tom and Tim Brackett (Buckfield, ME) – Father-son duo with deep roots at Oxford Plains.
-
Travis Stearns (Auburn, ME) – Strong on home turf, looking to end the season in style.
With so many talented drivers entered, the battle for the overall PASS 400 title is wide open — and the potential for one driver to leave with $100,000 adds even more intrigue.
How the Points and Payouts Work
Each of the three segments rewards immediate cash prizes, but consistency is key. The driver with the lowest total score after all three segments will be crowned the 2025 PASS 400 Champion and earn the final $25,000 bonus.
That means the best driver over 400 laps — not necessarily the one who wins the most segments — could walk away with the championship. However, a clean sweep of all three segments guarantees the biggest payday in PASS history.
The PASS 400 Weekend combines everything fans love about short-track racing — high stakes, close battles, strategy, and heart-stopping action. Oxford Plains Speedway’s legendary 3/8-mile oval has hosted countless iconic races, and this year’s event promises to add another chapter to that history.
